lets start this off by im a firm beliver in a 4430 JD if i had to own one tractor do everything that would be my 77 4430. BUT i still love my ACs on the same level. so if this had been even another color id still think the same.. i think its awfull that the gov would pay someone to destroy a piece of equipment so they would buy a new one... what kind of deal did cali state offer ?? this guy has got alot of hate on youtube comments for this but he stands behind it... at least around here idk how many hours is on that but that coulda maybe brought in the teens. i mean did the gov or state come close to that??? but anyway the old girl run a long time just seems sad [TUBE]VjZC4OTlW9A[/TUBE]

That is a shame. Pretty impressive how long it ran. Wonder how long a new Deere could run that way.

That was ample time to finish a round and drive to the shop to put oil in it
...should have taken to a tractor pull with pump turned up

The gov't rules are typical gov't stupidity but the guy is even more stupid for getting rid of that good of a tractor to buy some new piece piece of junk. Why not buy a tractor already blown up and 'destroy' it and keep the good one?

No different than the stinkin cash for clunkers program. 9 years later new and used vehicles are still more expensive than they ever were. I got of good used cars AND PARTS are gone too.

I don't even know where to start with this. I did google the California program and all I could find was it said the government splits the cost of the new tractor with the farmer. My question is that a lump sum payment or deferred tax credits to the farmer? Personally I prefer cash in hand over promises of the future. Also did anyone else noticed the old chevy truck and other equipment in the background? Was the sacrifice really going to make a difference?

That is sick! And besides, where do they come up with the idea that they’re cutting pollution? How much pollution was caused just by having to crush it and recycle it, and then to manufacture a new one? And that new one is going to pollute the air also. I believe the idea just went out the window....
As for the ‘cash for clunkers’ deal, there was supposed to be one a couple years ago by John Deere for old lawn mowers. Nobody brought any in, but there was a lot of interest from people wanting to buy the ‘clunkers’ from John Deere! I have taken many garden tractors that were headed to the scrappers and have been restoring them. I just can’t even watch the poor 4430. |

I worked for the State of Illinois for 26 years. It's absolutely unbelievable as well as criminal the amount of equipment and buildings that were left to rot or destroyed in the name of progress. "No wonder we're broke!".

These people are truly savages. I couldnt look at it. That tractor had a lot of life left i n it if it ran that long like that. I am not a JD dude, got nothing against them, but Id take that tractor in a second...I hope no one is doing that to Allis stuff, if so, we need to mount a rescue mission ASAP. My BIL has a 4430 with steel disc dauls 18.4.34s. It looks new, always shedded. Its his favorite on his farm among several. He keeps talkig about selling it as he doesnt need it, he never does...likes it too much and its been paid for for a long, long time.
What a stupid waste, TREV.

We have the similar program here in Texas and I had the opportunity to view a pristine 7020 with less than 3K hours on it last year as the scrapper bought it after they torched a mandatory hole in the block and cut out a good chunk of the frame rail.
If I recall, they show a new Kubota (big) on the TX website as they push the new tier clean diesels as replacements in the program. Tractor was still complete and the scrapper asked me if I wanted to hear it run but I walked away as I had no use for her.

Un F'n believable, our tax dollars at work. I've never heard of such a program before. So it's purpose is to rid the world of older high polluting tractors? I know a lot of farmers (myself included) that would welcome a tractor like that with open arms.

If I was really into Conspiracy Theories I'd say there are several groups behind these laws to do away with older tractors as it makes it harder for the smaller farmers to stay in business.

Mel had a post over on the construction forum a couple years ago (he's a Californian, too) about a couple of AC crawler tractors that he'd bought for parts, because the California government made em useless with a laser torch. Had holes blown in em all over to make sure they wouldn't run again. Ugh! Darrel
