Your furrow is really straight! Must be doing something right. A lot of plows sitting out here, I run a wire brush on a 4" grinder over them then a flap wheel. That speeds the scouring. Anything that gets that much elbow grease I try really hard to keep inside after that! Made it over to the neighbors with the WD and Drill. He had a bit more to do than I expected! Went through 4 bags of oats and 2 bags of grass. His son was flagging where I seeded and having a hard time keeping up!

Saturday, 4-27 I took the NF 45 on a tractor ride out of Liberty Center Ia. First time that girl has gotten picked. It was the easiest one on short notice. Preformed admirably! Have I ever mentioned to you guys how much I love that tractor? There were only 10 riders. One other Allis, a nicely restored D-19 gas. Two Fords, four Farmalls, a Minnie, and one lone deere. Beautiful country down in Lucas Co. WE drove several miles of 'Minimum maintenance', aka, dirt roads that were marginally dry. At any rate it was a fun day!

I've moved four row heads like that but never a six. Hauled one of those heads about 7 miles to the junkyard.

Saturday, 5-4, changed starters in the NF 45. Old one shot craps the Sunday before. Changed it then to one that was 'on the shelf'. Had another one that was on the shelf too that was dead. Out of curiosity I called Ankeny auto electric to see how much longer they were going to be open. Today and one more was the answer, rats! He asked what I needed? Explained the situation, bring them up, we'll get them done. That changed the course of my day but I happily hauled two starters and an alternator there. Alternator checked good and we talked about the 6-12 volt thing. They set both up for 12 volts. Thought I might as well put a correct one in the tractor, they were taking up space on the bench I needed to do some brake work on a Farmall, easy way to make space! The other will go in the WF 45 as soon as it gets close to the shop. I just started using this shop a couple months ago, really sucks they are retiring. They sold to some younger guys that are moving it to Slater. That will add about 40 miles to the journey. Probably give them a try sometime in the future. The old hindsight thing. Had I found out about these guys a year earlier, they would have gone through every starter and alternator I own!

Took the wd45 out with the 2 bottom disk plow i got from farmer zzz . Plow seemed to work pretty well, need to adjust one of the scrapers. Tractor struggled with traction which surprised me. Both rear tires are brand new and loaded with beet juice. Guess i am going to add some weight to the land wheel

My accountant and I have been clearing an area for a larger garden and we've been dismantling an old mobile home on the property. The 170 moved some small items such as an All Crop drill and a sprayer. After that we hooked up a new to us 190XT to brush mow the area
The 200 was called in to pull some small trees and relocate the MH frame to another spot for cutting up. 190XT back in action with the spring tooth harrow to work over the sweet corn patch. The 170 will pull the JD 494 we got from 200Tom tomorrow hopefully |

Had a mostly Orange weekend. Saturday, dumped some gas in WD Micha and headed back over to the neighbors to reseed his waterways I did back in April. They were looking good, until, the coop sprayed the corn in 25 mph wind. Wow, they smoked them s.o.b's. They used to spray for me but no longer, new guy seems to be doing a good job. After returning home I did some work on the North drive with the 856 and big-ox blade. That was the non-Orange part. It also went for a tractor ride later on. Once I got that hard packed clay scraped off, got CA-2 out and drug the harrow section around. That thing really worked great for that, probably used less fuel than the 45 would have too. Sunday, seeded some grass on the North side of that drive where Dan got the clay for the building pad. Drill is staying on that WD until the building is done and I can reseed the rest of the yard. More harrowing with CA-2. Then loader work with the 6080. Had some stumps ground back in February, dug the chips and dirt out and moved to the burn pile. Well, got one done and two partial scoops out of the other. Filled the hole with black dirt Dan saved me from the pad. Got some seed on it between showers but it just cut loose before I could rake it in. Guess we'll see how that goes!

Hopefully the rain pushed the seed in some for you.
I worked the seed bed for second sweet corn with 190XT and 3pt harrow. Planted it with 170 pulling JD494. Then the 7040 and 1350 FC to get beans done with the 7045 and DA385. I tried (miserable fail) to se the WD45 and SC 3 bottom to turn some sod for the garden expansion. It’s been a long time since I’ve run an outfit like that. Dad had his WD with six cylinder conversion pulling a similar plow but he had it set up and all I did was operate it for a while. This time around I need to learn to set the thing up to work together and a small plot is no way to learn. |

We got another 3&1/2" last night! There was a pond on the South end of the garden that has pretty much receded now. Should be plenty of moister to get new seeding to germinate and won't have to water the sod for awhile! Going to work on indoor stuff for awhile now. No point in making a bunch of ruts.

I used my CA and trailer made from a Ford Ranger with 6" bed that I use to haul mulch and shoveled 2 trailer loads of wood chips for mulch in one flower bed, I can drop the tailgate and reach the front of the bed to get all the mulch out.

Got some rain friday night to soften up the ground. Milked, got all the cows out on pasture and went for a day of plowing. Couple of hours, wd 45 is running great, disc plow is burying weeds great, weather is beautiful and then i picked up an 18 inch piece of rebar. It went through the bar of the tire but somehow didn't puncture the tire. What a lucky day! Then i went around the field again and picked up another piece of rebar and put this one right through the tire. Can't remember who i pissed off to do that to me but someone is unhappy

Here's the WD45 i spent time on over the winter to get back to a working tractor
It does smoke a bit but runs good. I have a New Idea rake with snap coupler hitch that was first hooked to but was having trouble with the height adjustment. This pull type is far more nimble than I thought. Followed up with 7040 and Gehl round baler |

Changed the oil in the NF 45. Noticed the date on the filter, hmmm, been awhile. I use that thing quite a bit and sometimes work it pretty hard. Then gave it a bath, wasn't horribly dirty but it's nice and clean now!

A scarifier would be handy at times. I just drag an old harrow section around with the CA. Set the teeth up pretty straight a few passes then down flat to smooth things up. With all the traffic around here this year been doing it a lot! Looked for you and the accountant yesterday at Amana, no luck.

Yep, that driveway has been neglected for years. Harrow, chunk of I-beam, regular 3pt blade, fairly inadequate. I was surprised how deep it would dig without extra weights.
We went to a car show nearby yesterday. Will be at Amana soon today. Sorry we missed you. |

WD45 on the New Idea 49M rake with snap coupler hitch.
I ran that rake when Dad had it in the 70s and 80s. Was converted to 3pt. I found the coupler hitch in the weeds last year and after getting some hard to find bearings from Mikez, it's up and running again |

Plummer, that is a cool rake! I would like to have a mounted hay-rake of some sort and I don't even make hay. I may start after I retire though. On the Allis front, washed the 185 yesterday, water bill is going to be outrages next month, been washing a lot of tractors lately. Moved the series 3 D-17 so I could get the carry-all out of the shed. That was interesting, the seat is off of it so I sat on a milk crate. Also it seems to only want to run with the choke fully on. I have a carb-kit for it, just never have time to get to it.

I dug out a pair of steel shotgun trap houses. First on was a bit of a rodeo because trap house was bolted to a concrete block used for sitting the trap on.
It all came up but was a wee bit heavy for my 715b without the loader bucket. So I dug the second one out carefully, insuring that the large block of concrete stayed in the pit. I then had to drive across town to unload it at the new shooting complex. |

Got out our G tractor with a 1 row cultivator and cultivated one of my daughters sweetcorn patches, only 3 rows quarter mile long here and gonna do another patch 3 rows half mile long tomorrow morning before the heat sets in. I'm the hired hand for her FFA project as she is preparing for college. She is continuing her FFA record book on sweetcorn to apply for the American degree, she got her State degree when she was a junior. Since she won't be around for part of the picking she cut it back from 2 acres and pumpkins to just a bit over and acre and no more pumpkins.

When she plants sweetcorn she uses the 8 row planter and puts sweetcorn in 3 rows and longer season seed corn in the other rows to even out the planting as the main field is planted earlier and she comes back at various times in different plots to space out the season and the 5 extra rows keep the sweetcorn from cross pollinating with the field corn. Thats why 8 rows are shorter than the rest of the field. Had that happen years ago and wasn't good, had to let it go and harvest with the rest of the field.
