I have a 185 diesel that is getting water in oil. Thought it might be easier to swap out engine than overhauling mine. Need to know which combine engine to get

likely sleeve orings.  if you overhaul it you would have a new engine.  combine engine swaps are not straight forward drop ins and you never really know what your getting.

I agree as well.  Rebuild your engine.  You will know what you have.  No telling what you will get in a used engine.

it has been discussed at length here before - it is a lot of work - combines have no provision for hyd pump drive - different oil pump unless you find a G diesel and still have to change front covers - water pump will not fit radiator - it will work - we have done it several times - but it is cheaper and ez ier to overhaul your engine.
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

If the lower bores are bad enough, there are shops that bore and sleeve them.

To answer your question, any 301 will work. It all depends on how much stuff you want to change.
