What about head bolt locations? Seems like they aren't concentric. How about a 460 Ford head? The 351M-400 are kind of inbetween physical size of a 460 or Windsor style head. The Cleveland style heads are known for pretty good flow numbers.

that's is what i am needing help with is if they are another manufactured  head closer in physical width and length head bolt location isn't a problem . I will just drill and tap the deck for the head.

I have some Cleveland heads I can measure but no loose WD head to compare to.  Also have a cracked one you could have for comparison if you were closer.

If you could find a 460 D0VE head commonly called a "dove" head, those are the best flowing 385 series head short of a Boss 429...

I know you must be building a puller, but I've thought about how to convert the Allis 226 engine to a diesel. If the gas head could be modified to mount diesel injectors or if another head could be found to be bolted to the block. Just more of my day dreams.

I was wondering about how that would work. Are there injectors that screw in or are they all held in with a plate with two bolts? Would also probably have to up the compression ratio inside the engine. How much compression could the stock internal parts, rods, cranks, pistons handle? Adding a turbo while at it would be a given as well.

well i tried 15.1 comp on the buda rods at a little over 400 cubic inches and they didnt like it but mack says if i had them flame hardened to a 40 rockwell they wouldnt have bent. i guess it just depends on the injector you are looking at.
