Hi to all, just got me a nice WD45 with a D19 diesel repower engine in it. It has been setting for about 20 years in a machinery shed. Put new diesel in it and it started right up.
Got it to a shop so I can work on it and so far I took it in to get rid of the fluid in the rear tires and change the oil. Would post a picture but it won’t load. |

Welcome to the world of buying old tractors. Not trying to bring you down but you WILL find more things wrong with it the more you look. Deal with them when you stumble across them.

My cousin might be able to help on the pump so I might be in good luck. I got the tractor from him.

55allis,
Welcome! Glad the tractor is running. As mentioned they tend to mark there territory. Every thing about a diesel is a little more complicated than a gas job. But you have a rare tractor. Under 7000 made I believe. You might need to reduce the picture size to around 800 x 600 pixels for it to load better. Regards, Chris |

Ok thanks Mack. it has d17 pistons and the valves hit the pistons so I think a thicker head gasket will fix that problem.
Thanks!! |

Have you physically checked to see by rotating engine and then checking the valve for movement at tdc of engine with the valve open?

When my cousin overhauled it 30 some years ago he put d17 pistons in it and so he drove it 10 miles right after he overhauled it and it bent a few pushrods, so he was in a hurry to use it and retarded the camshaft and fixed all the pushrods it bent
Now if that explains what happened |

Don't think there is a thicker head gasket + that would increase the chances of blowing head gasket. MACK

I think it will be fine with a d17 head gasket besides they are a bit thicker.

There must be a difference in cams for the D17 pistons to hit in a D19 diesel. The later D19 compression ratio is 15:1 and the D17 is 15.7:1. Machining pistons would fix it. Of course I have little experience in those engines........ Looking at the parts page it looks like the cam changed and when using the new cam you had to change to newer pistons. I'm just babbling for my own edjamacation.

Do the diesels have flat surface where valve sets requiring specific stand out? Someone put seats in my 8070 before I got it and didn't set them down...had valve marks in carbon on 4 pistons.

55 allis,
I can see you have some experience in these engines and that's good. I do not. A good friend and good mechanic on these 45D engines gave me advice on them. If you want to chat P.M. me. Thanks for posting the picture of your tractor! Regards, Chris

The AGCO head gaskets had a sheet of paper inside them on the piston machining needed. AGCO has killed the head gasket but Tony at Tony's tractor has one left of the AGCO gaskets left'
