Can I get some assistance? We have a 39 RC I'm currently rebuilding the bell housing and transmission on. Just doing a thorough cleaning and all new seals. There's a cork seal that sits behind the throwout bearing that I need to replace. I did some research with mixed results. The shaft has a spiral cut in it to push oil back into the belt pulley gear compartment. Some forums have replaced the seal with a modern press in seal. But a few others wrote that it has to be replaced with cork because of the spiral cut in the shaft. Could you guys help me out? What do I do?

If the original cork seal is not available, you can buy a "speedi sleeve" to press over the spiral grooves in the shaft and use a rubber lip seal.

There is no reason why a lip type seal won't work.     MACK

It won't with a spiral grove cut in the shaft. The grove will EAT the seal up.

Installing the lip seal is a little harder than just buying the seal. The old seal base will need to be machined out or purchase a seal holder from a D 10 thru 15. I set up and milled out a few so the D 10 thru 15 rear lip seal would press in. I made a fixture to work on my one rotary mill turn table.
I just installed one a couple weeks back on my one C. I did use a speedy sleeve. It gets kinda spendy.

I just called my local Allis Chalmers dealer. Call Niemuth Implement in Stetsonville first, then Area Equipment in Thorp. They used to stock lots of Allis parts, but unfortunately, the last time I called for something, they had gotten rid of their stock. They can still order parts in, though. They should be able to help. I think the part number is 7020860. If all else fails, contact Norm Meinert here on the forum.
