ok guys. we will be pulling some Div1 antique and a classic class we devised '59-'80 field tractors. the breakdown is every 1000lbs. so a distance measurement is not really fair putting a 5100lb tractor against a 5900lb tractor since these guys arnt moving weight. previously the sled we used had a way to measure the distance box travels on the sled and we had a formula for it.
(total inches + 42.4) + 2800 / tractor weight
however this year and hopefully in the future we have invited a self propelled sled to help us speed things up and free up a person as well as a pullback tractor. so, anyway, this new sled does not have a way to measure the distance the box moves up.
so i was wondering if something like this would work. its not a true % but does give a factor in which to rank the tractors. tractor ranks would only apply at each class.
(distance pulled in ft x large constant) / tractor weight. example i have been playing with using a 5000 lb tractor, 5500 and a 5999. all pulling 120 ft to show the rank and then pulling different distances.
(120x15000)/ 5000= 360
(120x15000)/ 5500= 327
(120x15000)/ 5999= 300
so all pulling the same distance the lightest tractor has the highest score.
i can do the same deal pulling different distances and get a factor, but not sure if its accurate
(120x15000)/ 5000= 360
(130x15000)/ 5500= 354
(140x15000)/ 5999= 350
so applied this way it shows the light tractor winning again even with the heavier guys going a little farther. what do you guys think?
last year I had the old formula in a spreadsheet on a laptop and it worked great. much easier than figuring each pull. would like to do something similliar this year but need a way to figure placing based off distance and weight.
