Charlie surprised me by showing up at my retirement job! As you can see its not a job, just having fun helping my best bud. He square bales around 25K per year and round bales around 5K round bales. Use a Bale Barron and 2 NH square balers for the squares. NH 210 discbine to mow. I will always bleed orange but these Ford 8600’s are pretty good tractors. He flipped the front end around to give them short wheelbase. They are heavy and well built. He has 3-8600’s, a TW10, 5610, 4000SU and several others. A Massey. 4WD with loader and he still has his first tractor, a AC 175 diesel with a 500 loader that he started his hay business with 30 years ago. I will be using it tomorrow to load round bales at a remote farm. I bought his AC 160 last year when it blew a head gasket and did a full engine rebuild. The Krone rotary rake I’m running is a amazing tool. Ive never seen a rake clean the field as well as it does. What the video doesn’t show is me wearing my AC shirt!!!

Nice video! There is something very calming about watching a video like that. Thanks for posting.
Raking has come a long way since the old "side delivery" rake I first raked with in the mid 60's.

We rolled 290 bales Monday another 100 Tuesday. Running the brand new NH 210 discbine is my favorite job and then raking. Farming full time either at our farm or for Gary has been my goal for a long time. 34 years at Verizon was a good job but not as satisfying as farming.

![]() My buddy Gary loading his wagon while I wait to load mine. Normally we would be using the road tractor but it’s at a farm 25 miles away hauling the 390 bales home. Using the 4WD Massey to load there. |

Just 1 NH round baler. No few Monday so Gary was able to start around 9 sm as I had been raking for 2 hays to stay ahead of him. We run 2 NH BC5070 Hayliner square balers at the same time when doing square bales. All balers have have Silo King additive machines on them. While we round baled yesterday the other crew square baled 900 bales of wheat straw. I finished transporting round bales this morning and am baling straw as I write this. When our local Allis dealership switched to Ford after AC went out of business that’s when Gary switched to Ford so he would have local dealership support which is only 2 miles away.

Both square balers and discbine are brand new as of a month ago. A 3 year old discbine is in the shop being repaired. Mowing usually requires 2 men doing 8-10 hr shifts to knock down as much when we can when a good forecast is predicted. The Bale Baron can stack a lot of hay so you want to have plenty down to feed it. Record day was 3415 bales in one day.

Thanks for reminding how much my round balers SUCK. LOL!!! It takes me.....I don't even know....
Good forecast.....ACCURATE forecast would be extremely beneficial.
And no dew? My my what a luxury!!! I've really grown to just about hate making hay. I mean.....I like making hay, when I can make hay. But junk equipment, fighting the weather, fighting the dew (which yeah is part of the weather), just gets frustrating. It's complicated! ![]() Good luck and have fun. |

Nice. We looked at a TW 25 and TW 30, and.....8670 (?) before we ended up with our 7045.
Our mower and balers all sucked. Addressed the mower situation this year with a new disc mower conditioner. Good lord willing and the creek don't rise, plan on getting a baler next year. I just CAN'T fart around as bad as it is much longer. How wide of a cut area is raked together there? Looks like at least 20-25 feet?

He used to use tandem roller bar rake's for years. The rotary rake is much better because it does not wind the hay up. In other words as your baling if you stop the baler just takes in the hay that is right at the pickup we’re as a windrow from a roller bar tends to keep pulling it in 5 ft away which can jam the baler. The rotary produces a nice fluffy windrow which produce consistent bales. As far as production output on the round baler it averages a 4x5 bale every 45 seconds using net wrap and a minute 15 seconds with string. Windrows are doubled up.

Growing up, there was a Ford tractor dealership in Verona Wi, (Town&Country Ford?) about 15 miles away. Always had a few Fords on the lot, not hardly any Fords tractors nor implements on any farms in our area. Dealership was also a NH, and Heston implement dealer. We only went there when needing parts for a Ford skid loader. Very lackluster sales Dept., was there over 20 years, wondering how they lasted that long.

The Ford/ NH dealer locally is now gone. Kenny retired at the age of 80 and his son took over and got rid of the Ag portion of the dealership. They are strictly a Simplicity/Ferris lawn and garden dealership. He sells more Ferris mowers than any dealership in Va. A shame locals don’t have a local dealership anymore.
Begin to cut 2nd cutting next week. No sooner to get 1st cutting done it’s time to start all over again. ![]() |
