Good morning.  I better post an update before too much time passes.  I've just been doing little stuff.  Starter, found a overhaul kit that worked good.  Also cleaned up and painted the hydraulic plumbing.  Got the steering shaft welded up and turned down too.

Installed the front pulley.  This is easier done with the engine out, but I ended up tapping it on with a long rod and hammer.  The pulley isn't on the whole way in this pic.  The taper on the crankshaft should protrude.  Which it does now.

Removing the old brushes.

New brushes for the starter.

Painted some small stuff.  The two tubes with flex hose on them I need to replace the flex hose, but went ahead and painted anyway.

Hey Robert,,,as always,,you do great work,,,and your pics bring back lots of hard work memories,,but all good ones,,
Did your harmonic balancer have two allens? Also, something you might want to check, is to verify if timing mark lines up with the pointer when at TDC. Sure wished I'd thought bout mine before I got too far,,,, Looks like they got their money's worth out of them starter brushes, Huh,??
Lookin Good, Man,,,,,won't be long now,,,
I got just a couple of things left to get this tractor finished up. I finally got the LPG decals for mine yesterday,,!! It was too cold to put em on maybe tomorrow,,,can't wait,,,,

Yeah there was two set screws on the old pulley which is why I busted the old pulley!  The new pulley I bought has one long set screw.  I need to get the engine to TDC but I think the timing marks will line up.  When I was installing the flywheel I kinda turned the engine a little.

Funny on the starter my dad told me the starter used to hang up, when I opened the starter up I could see for sure it had.

Good Morning.

Got the radiator back.  Did some plating of small parts.  Pieced the tractor together and started cranking it over to get the oil flowing.  I'm getting about 20 psi just cranking the tractor over with the plugs out.  I'm also getting a little spark, but it's weak and I think my coil isn't making a good connection to the plug wires.

On the radiator the shop cut these reliefs in the lower tanks.  And the new tank fits in now.

Plating some of the hardware.  Redid the hose clamps, washers, nuts, holders.  Also redid the wheel lugs.

Robert good progress on the Allis. Great that your getting some things done this time of the year. I did a bunch of stuff on dads WD at this time last year and was then ready to complete it by mid year. That radiator mod looks good.

Chris

A little bit of work done.  I did pour some gas in the carb and fired the tractor up, but it doesn't run long.  So I need a gas tank.  I opened up the gas tank from the bottom.  Just a cut off wheel walking the seam all around from the bottom side.  It split pretty easily.  Cleaned up the inside with a wire brush on the angle grinder.  Then just welded it back together.  Welds weren't real good, but I'll clean them up.

Dang Robert your not afraid to tackle some interesting projects. I would not have the confidence to weld the tank back together. Looks good!

I am with Chris that gas tank repair is impressive.   I bet you could have a full time business doing those. Everyone I talked to told me my only choice was to clean and line my tank taking it apart and cleaning it was never even mentioned by anyone around here. Very impressive work.

Thanks Dan.  I wish I could go into business doing restorations!

Got the tank wrapping up.  There were tons of pits inside the tank because I took it to a shop which put probably acid in it to clean it up.  Well they didn't get all the acid cleaned out and it sat inside eating away.  So instead of trying to fill the pits with weld I decided to seal it with some epoxy coating from Caswell.  The top of the tank was pretty pitted too, so I used some body filler to try and smooth it out.

I scratched my head about getting that timing mark all lined up on the front cover.  So when it came down to setting the timing and doing the initial crank, my manual said to use the hole in the side of the bell housing to get the mark on the flywheel centered in there.  That worked.

So I guess that pointer can be used in the future if I ever put a timing light to it.  Confused

Robert,
Man if that tank hold gas, my hat is off to you and your skills! Sure looks nice with some PO on it after all your work on it! You going to have a very nice tractor! It is coming along nicely too.  All those parts that you have cleaned and painted look real good.

Dang Robert,,,you do great work,,and I don't get tired sayin that,,,!!!That is goin to be a beautiful lookin tractor and prolly run better than it did when it showed at your daddy's farm years ago,,
I wanted to ask the process you using on the bolts, small parts hangin on them wires that look like galvanize,,,??? Those are really gonna "pop" against the orange,,,
I bead blasted most of mine and then used ole Shameless's rattle can method but you gotta be extra, extra careful and use only 12 point sockets when tightening em ,,,

Thanks guys I appreciate it.  It's kinda one of those things.  Good from far but far from good...  LOL.  Hopefully the tank will hold since I put sealer in it...

Man, look how good that sheet metal looks. With someone being that careful to not beat it around, I would say the rest is salvageable. Give it a go, as the English would say.  Leon  Cmo

Yeah the sheet metal is really good.  Beyond the front grill (which a cow kicked in) the rest has no creases or dents.

Hi.  I shot some video today of the tractor running.  It doesn't appear any of the gauges work, but the radiator seems to hold.  The lift cylinder works, PTO works, power steering works.  I've got oil leaking out of the top of the cylinder head.  I'm not sure if it's because I had the valve cover off for a bit or if I have another issue.  Oil pressure was around 22psi, but there's a little leak at the connection so it's probably making it lower.

Robert,
Very NICE! Your Dads tractor is coming along very well. Some minor details but that's expected with all the things you have done.
It sounds GREAT! Awesome Job.

Sounds good. I think you might want to splurge a little for a new seat cushion though that one doesn't look too comfortable in the closeup. I would seriously get gauges they are on the list of spring repairs I need to finish on my tractors right now. Got to know your temp and oil. Amp meter is a nice to have but I can hook up a charger alot easier then rebuilding my motor again... ofcouse I ran all last summer without gauges...

Haha Dan. That seat still has a little life in it. More cushion than the d17. That one is just a rusty metal pan. Yeah gauges are my next order of business.

Actually I like the old pan seats. If you just replace the shock absorber on the pans and set the seat to the right point on the curve for your weight they bounce along pretty nice. And them pans are alot easier to get dry!!! Then new pans with the holes are not so fun got pinched from them holes and I didn't like that non.

Good job!  Thanks for all of the updates.  I admire your amazing craftsmanship and your ability to handle every task like you have done it a thousand times.

Quick question.  Did you replace the input shaft seals where they clutch shaft goes into the torque tube?  To be honest I feel bad asking but I learned the hard way that they tend to leak after putting in a new clutch.

Looks like a lot of work but does not look bad for sitting outside for all that time.
I have to agree with what is said above.  Remember

i remember I had a chance to get the first flat top WC my father sold.
Did not and have regretted it ever since.
Good Luck!
