Look that pivot pin over.  it kinda reminds of the one I took out.

The darn pin did not extend forward far enough to be comfortably and totally riding on the bushing.  As i recall mine was worse than yours.  I wondered how something like that didn't get resolved.

Anyhow take a look at the room you have in the pedestal.  My new pin now utilizes the whole bushing with some to spare.

just a thought.

Yes, I was doing some lurking through old post and seen the DON MO fix.  The pin is 4.2"  I measured last night and was getting about 1/2" engagement.  So I was going 5" and maybe shim the rear pivot.

Robert,
 Good lurking on the pin!
Those carbs look like they do need a good bath. The first one is pretty crusty. Looks like your making good progress.

 Chris

I went the shim route also on the rear pivot after I was not satisfied with how the pivot pin matched up with the bushing.  I kept thinking that you cannot do that since the shimming would mess something else geometrically up but i don't think it can.

mine drove out fine after a big adz shimming.

Funny how GREAT minds think and work together,,,,!! I also shimmed the rear pivot on mine and now have great engagement at the pin,,,!!!
I was kinda irked that AC left this little tidbit in such questionable condition,.

Primered the power steering, water pump, carb and distributor last night.

Thanks Dave for the seal on the power steering!  Slid it on and no leaks now.

Sliding on the power steering gear.  I painted these separate because I wasn't for sure if I could get into all the nooks and crannies with my paint gun.  Particularly where the power steering cylinder hugs the block.  Now that's it's bolted together I think it would have been fine.

If you all remember a while back I bought this radiator on ebay.  The core is actually wider than the original so it hits the power steering gear casting.  The areas I marked in silver I think I'll heat up and press in.  I don't think it'll take much to clear.

Painting pieces separately is the only way I do my restorations.  It's a complete tear down and a lot of work, but the end result is definitely worth it!

Robert

I wonder if you got the rad i sent back.  I ran into the same issue with it.  For the money involved I was reluctant to try to beat the lower tank in.

Funny after a couple of phonecons with the company, they continued to send out "D 15" radiators that do not fit.

i wound up having my old one record.  Price came out a few bucks less - but it did fit like a glove.

Robert,
I am not a rad man, and have made some mods on things. But have you considered taking this to a rad shop and asking them about making the shape changes? I was just concerned about how much heat you can apply and not damage something?
I know your good and have thought about the mods, so I will let you at it!
Hey that front end is looking really great! Very nice work!
Regards,
 Chris

Took your guys' advice and dropped both radiators off at a shop on the other side of town.  Maybe end of having the original one re-cored.  The owner was going to think over building a custom tank for the new one.  What else to do with the new one...  Who knows, not even for sure what it fits to sell it.  Radiator has been a sore subject so moving on

Laid some black paint down.  This is ppg 9300.  My dad came over and said the water pump is supposed to be orange..  Haha.  I assumed since it was completely rusted over it was supposed to be black!  Seems like black always is the first to go.  He said it was a new pump that was unpainted is why it was rusty.

Water pump

Water Pump pulley

Distributor

Welded on a new pivot pin.  This is 4130 1.25" rod.  It was soft when I got it, so I heat treated it best I could at home.  It's noticeably harder so I think it worked well.

I ended up making 2 passes with the welder to finish it up.

Cleaned it up and hung it from the ceiling for paint.  That's all I did yesterday.

Robert,
I think your making good progress! Getting that pin welded on is a big step. Good luck on the radiators!

On the radiator knee jerk.  I am sure you bought that rad from the same company I did on ebay.  Mine was an easy return.  They even sent me a label with paid freight back and refund was quick.  So if you go with a recore like I did and the man has not taken a hammer to the new one you might consider giving the ebay dude a call and see if they will treat you the same.

Happy holidays

Good Morning.  Got the axle installed and took the generator apart to clean it up.  Hopefully it still works.

That extra length worked out perfect.  However I did not shim the rear pivot.

The steering wheel wasn't in too good of a shape.  I stuck a rod down in the first u joint and wedged it against the tractor frame.  That allowed me to break the nut free.  Since the wheel was so badly broken I took a hammer and chiped away the plastic center.  I then used the puller jaws and it came right off easily.

Took the generator apart.  I was just going to clean it up and replace the front bearing.

I was able to get the brushes freed up.

Have a Merry Christmas.

You are doing good work.  You are going to paint that front axle orange, right?

Good Morning.  Cleaned up the generator armature.  Chucked it up in the drill press and used a few pieces of sand paper until it shined up.  Then got it bolted back together.  It's still just a little too cold to paint right now though.

Ha.  Yeah Joe I was pushing that 2x4 too far...

Thanks Chris!  15 Big smile

Was able to get the starter out.  That's a bit of a job.  My Dad said it used to hang up a lot.  So I think I'll be replacing brushes and the bushings are noticeably worn.

The armature looks good!

The bushing in the head didn't get pushed in all the way.  It was fine until I smacked it trying to drive the starter out (before I mounted the engine).

Drive unit slides off after the set screw on the left is loosened.

A lot of these bushings are worn down pretty good.  The generator had about .001 difference between bushing and shaft.  The starter is about .009, so I'll replace them.

I just paid for a new core for a B to replace the original, (i think).  Anyway, it was $450, the new core had 3 rows of tubes and the old one only 2. The new core came from a shop in Maine that seems to do a lot of cores for old machinery. My radiator guy just looked in catalog, gave them a call and a week later I had it in the tractor.  As for the reproduction radiators, I don't know about all of them but we had trouble with a model A fore repro that is in a shingle mill, less tubes and smaller tubes, it would over heat. The word in the model A community seems to be that the repro are marginal.

I love that you are going to restore this tractor. Family tractor and all. It looks like you are doing a fine job too. Take the time you need, no rush, it will be worth it. And try not to think too much of the money. You are having fun and getting experience. And you will have a nice tractor when you are finished. Probably for less money than you would have spent on some other hobbies  too.

Thanks guys.  I need to call the radiator shop and find out what the story is.  I keep forgetting.

Not much other update, was a little warm today so I shot a little black on the front pulley and also the generator.

Sorry had a oldtimers moment on the "15". Your staying focused doing a little bit at a time and it will come together nicely.
