Today I went to get my D-17 out of storage. Charged the battery and then went to start her. Nothing. Then I got a spark from the negative cable. So, I didn't have a new cable as it is showing it's age. So, I found 3 copper washers, inserted them in the cable gap. Then retightened up and it started just fine. Is this a safety concern or is it ok to do this for a couple weeks until I can get a new cable?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I've taken a small nail or screw and loosened the clamp, put the nail or screw in the opening then tightened it back up before. worked for worn out clamps. until I could replace them
