Are there any "styles" of stops that are better than others? I see Shoupes offers2 different types,although only 1 is offered as a "kit". Thanks

The ones with the ears are easier to change. The round ones we use on equipment that were not going to change the stop.

Duct tape.... Can't fix stupidity. But will muffle the sound of it!

Yep, me too.  I got mine at TSC a long ways back.  They were like $12 for the set of 4.  I too wish there was a couple that were half thickness.

I've seen the aluminum ones like pictured above, and also some cast iron ones with a wire spring. I've always feared that the cast iron ones may be too hard and actually scratch the rod over time.

 Cast iron won't scratch a chromed cylinder rod.
