Heated gloves

Dayum, my old fingers always cause me to stop pushing snow and run in the house to get the numbness out of my fingers.  Been thinking about investing in a pair of heated gloves.  At 100 bucks I hate to make a mistake.  Any suggestion from experience out there?

I try not to go out when it's that cold but when I had to, I would use those inside the glove hand warmers, put one in each glove and a spare set, one in each front shirt pocket.  When the glove ones quit working I swap them out, let the glove ones rejuvenate in my shirt pockets.

I discovered something recently, by wearing those latex or plastic gloves under my leather gloves my hands stay much warmer. All those years farming with crawlers, no cab, freezing in the East wind that blows the San Juaquin Tule fog up on the Temblor Mountains, taking my gloves off and putting them over the exhaust stack to warm them and then freeze some more. I wish I had know that then.

I put a cab on my snow tractor.  The engine heats it.  I can take off my gloves and open up my outer layer.  Sucks when I gotta get out and walk to the house!!!

Funny thing, you guys get real weather, way below zero, snow, ice, sleet, here in central CA we haven't even got a hard freeze this winter but I can tell you with the wind blowing a gale of very wet fog @ 2000 feet ASL, the temp is well above freezing, but the wind and fog go right through all the clothes you can put on. I have seen it freeze in these conditions and had icicles that stand almost straight out from the fences but I bet you guys have seen a bunch more than that. The thing that helped the most were canvases along the engine but only if you had a puller fan.

when i worked for a propane co, they had a sales magazine with all kinds of propane related items in it, in there was a pair of gloves for delivery people that said they would keep your hands warm even if drenched in the propane. the boss got me a pair and they were the warmest gloves i've ever worn. i used them when cutting wood and other outside activities (snowmobiling) and my hands never got cold. they appear to have plastic on the outside but it never tore or cracked. ask your propane supplier to look. they were not mittens.
