 Topic: Wd spin out rim question

Widening the rims on my Wd. To my surprise I had no problem getting them loose with a breaker bar. Now that the rim is set out it’s tough to get any power on the breaker bar, and I can’t get any of the four more than half way tight. Is it acceptable to put an air impact gun on them, or am I going to break something unnecessarily. If I shouldn’t do that, I’m thinking about a foot of extension on the socket to get the breaker bar out past the rim where I can put some weight on it. Any other tips to getting these things tight?

Another way of tightening them up, if the rail is worn, is to shim between the rail slider(s) and the rail. Don't use a impact, the bolts have a stop ear, on them, and an impact can break 'em off
Also, the rails may actually be tight, upon re-reading your post. sometimes the rails are more worn on one section of the rail, than at other positions. I would use a 1/2" breaker bar, and enough of an extension, to get the clearance, to get better leverage...

I don’t think it’s a matter of too-worn, in fact it’s been recently painted by the prior owner, and I could believe the rails are a bit over dimension, making it tight to get the eccentrics to have clearance to rotate fully into position.

Move the tractor so that the locks are at the 12;3;6;and 9 O'clock positions. Tighten bottom one 1st then do the sides and finish up at the top. Them pins are tuff; you may need to use a cheater pipe on the wrench. Be sure you have installed the rail lock.

I have the rim at its widest point, with the eccentric in the corner of the rail and one rail lock on the other side.

Might be just a tad TOO far out. As said, 12, 3, 6, and 9. Start at lowest and then sides and then top. I've used a 6' breaker bar 'extension' for these and I weigh somewhere around 225. They aren't easy, but they're not supposed to be.

A minimum amount of lube will help. Just don't get any lube on the block/rail contact points. I have used my 3/4" drive socket and a piece of pipe........ One time I also twisted the head of a cam bolt right off!

Sounds like you need to disassemble and clean them up. Put anti-seize on the eccentric pin. They will work much better.

I’ll give that a try. I did put an electric impact gun on them but it was not powerful enough to get them to move any further than I managed with a breaker bar

Take them apart and put the pins in from the back side. Then you can use your impact to spin them with out the stop hitting. Put a little oil on the pin to create a lapping compound. Works great and it's fast. It will get them turning freely with little effort. Put them back together with anti-seize and they will work for decades.
