What does it take to put a 226 gas (D17 style) into a 175 that now has a diesel
motor?

depends on the version of 175 - late style - front pto drive (not available new) and shaft  proper clutch pressure plate - can use either on the late 175's.  If is a early you have to have the splined pressure plate as well. The pump must match the tractor steering well.  Throttle linkage mods.  Choke cable.  Rear engine adapt plate.  Redrill mtg holes in frame -  or you can  email me bgtbran@hotmail.com   as I have an excellent 248 diesel  in a 175, with a junk tranny rear end that we are salvaging.
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

Also, the gasser engine requires a longer clutch shaft in the torque tube, which unless the flywheel can get moved back 1.25+ inches, kind of nixes the whole deal, right ???

Don't know why anyone would want to put a gas engine in.  The 248 Perkins is much more efficient and reliable.

Don't get much more reliable than a 226. There's a reason A-C used them in tractors for what, 25 years?

I am not knocking the 226 one bit.  I am just saying that the 248 Perkins is extremely reliable and a properly rebuilt one would be better than trying to fit a gasser in the chassis.

Don't think the diesel in the one i'm looking at will be too good has a busted block, plus I have a couple 226 motors but seems like it wouldn't be worth the effort to change it over.

Don't the 170-175s gas and diesels use the same clutch shaft? Only the d17s had the different length ones.

I had to look on AGCOPARTS.com and sure enough, the Perkins engine uses the same long clutch shaft as a gasser. It's when you try and adapt an A-C 4 cylinder in that chassis the clutch shaft length causes a problem.

I think only the D17s had different length clutch shafts between gas and diesel
