Wound up with oil everywhere but what is new. Finally got into the donor enough to get to the trans, by all the 'Red' glue it was out recently.
![]() ![]() ![]() White paint on Rt rail is master pin, liked to not found the darn things so marked them for later. Dimples were filled with almost concrete like residue. Have been removing anything in the way. Have to gather up the runner to turn the machine around, the 180 pictured won't do it just digs holes, then I can pull trans and drop rails. |

BTW, re-measured rail 28" across four links, almost even. Rear sprocket rings are weld ons but not Allis, not sure whose they are, have been gas axe trimmed at the ears of the sprockets for some reason. So far all but a very few of the rubberized hoses shattered like glass or tore in two.

Very impressive. How many hours do you have into this project? Do you have a helper? Are you going to swap transmissions or are you going to take the doner transmission appart? Keep sending pictures.

As I don't have children and my closer relatives do not live that close I have but three working this project: Me, Myself and I, we stay persistently busy. I have around 48-58 hours so far in the tear down of realistic time, some days do better some days just piddle and stare as I am so tired from my real job. The 180 is my assistant most days but even it complains some, it did not like the weight of the engine/torque converter as a assembly, hydraulics squealed loud when it bound any at all. Even as stripped as it is the old machine is a chunk, 180 would slip tires and dig holes trying to move it,
Plan on doing a trans swap as is, not going to open it up as small parts are slim pickings these days, will open the runner's trans on removal to see what was failing. |

Got the runner off the hill and turned the donor around, also got some photos of the lesser shoes that should come off for replacements, have six ID'd so far.

Please excuse the mess in the shed, been kind of busy! Did get four of the worst location bolts out of the trans mounting, these had me worried but came loose with a 3/8" ratchet and universal socket. Have tried to get the lower roller bolts loose but have to get the rails off to get my big impact on them, 1/2" won't budge them.
The bolts were in these locations: ![]() ![]() Gonna play hell getting to those locations on the runner. Edited by DMiller - 19 Oct 2013 at 6:58am |

Trans is out, have the unit up on supports and lo & behold, the lower rollers are crap, been trimmed on the outer edge, inside edges rolled and eroded to little to nothing, bearings are completely gone to fully locked up and squared the roller faces but the trans is sitting where I need it for now. Went to drive the master pin on right rail, set up a drift guide and bang, three full shots and the head on my sledge fell off, handle broken inside the head, time to regroup.

One thing I find impressive, with all that is off the machine, the runner's hydraulics won't yet lift the remainder. U-joint is also toast, hope the one in the runner is OK or more parts to find.
Will be pulling both strainers and cleaning EVERYTHING before I go to pull the swapover. One trans pump mount bolt broke off in the aluminum mount, will have to get it out prior to the swap too. May build all the hoses from the pull-outs so I won't have to worry of subsequent failure. |

Ended up with a new handle for the sledge, the one it had would not stop breaking off inside the head, new one did fine. Rails are down, master pins are definitely German, Gutantite they were!! Found the rear sprockets are Henderson, been butch hacked for some reason to taper the teeth. My shoulders are sore from the 20#!
