I'm trying to figure out what is worse, the groundhog or pouring used motor oil and gasoline on the ground as a deterent. The idea of pouring that stuff on my ground  would make me think the groundhog really aint that bad. Ryan

I'm with you Ryan. One quart of motor oil can contaminate a Million gallons of ground water.

The device used to direct exhaust into a critter burrow is called the Crittergetter. It can be found here: GroundhogControl.Info or CrittergetterOnline.Com or GopherControl.us

Look around, I've seen ground hog escape holes with no loose dirt around them. Would not have seen it if I hadn't almost stepped in it.

Are people mixing up Pocket gophers with the larger burrowing animal. Chucks like to burrow in protected places and not in open fields

Groundhog, woodchuck -- what's the difference?

Woodchuck and groundhog are common terms for the same animal, the rodent with the scientific name of Marmota monax. Most closely related to squirrels, woodchucks actually can climb trees and also swim.

What's for dinner?

Groundhogs in the wild eat succulent green plants, such as dandelion greens, clover, plantain and grasses. They also are tempted by nearby garden vegetables. At Cornell, they dine on Agway Woodchuck Chow, a similar formulation to rabbit feed but in larger-sized pellets. Woodchucks binge and purposefully put on weight in the summer, reaching their maximum mass in late August. They become lethargic and prepare for hibernation in October. By February, hibernating woodchucks have lost as much as half their body weight.

Some more info on animal and it's range per Canadian site .

That critter getter thing might be a good idea. I'm thinking the D17D might do a better job than a late model car. Cold diesel smoke ought to really do the job fast...
