Hey guys,
It has been along time since I have posted here. Glad to be back. We just bought a 190 XT 1966 model with 5000 hours on it. Real clean tractor all there. I call my local dealer in Manhatten, MT to inquire about the relieability of the tractor and was told it had a weak differential (rear end) LOL. Any information about this model would greatly be appreciated.

The 1st 190s had a 2 pinion dif that did prove to be a weak point. They were campaigned by AC and were all to be upgraded to the 4 pinion differential but we do see an occasional one that slid by even to this day. Yours is most likely the 4 pinion style which was plenty strong. Great tractor, don't shift the trans gears while rolling (use the Power Director clutch instead) or it will eventually start jumping out of gear. Bill

Isn't there a way to tell by the rear axle diameter if it has the upgrades or not? Mike

Mike I'm not sure about updates, but I think the larger factory axles looked like mine. Notice the "humps" on the end of the axle housings.....I assume they were needed for larger bearing for larger axles.

Small axles (2 3/4") or big axles (3 1/4") makes no difference. Before serial number 23000 it could have a 2 pinion (factory) or an added four pinion differential. Effective 23001 and up are all four pinion (Series 3).

My 190xt gas has the bigger axles. What size plow ,model, recommended? If you had smaller axles, what plow would a person use? Should a person not plow?

Replacement of 3rd gear and coupler and collar requires COMPLETE teardown of the rearend of the tractor including removal of rear wheels and axles. A shop equipped to work with the spltting stands, fluid filled tires, jacking up the platform/cab, etc would say it's probably a 3 day (24 hrs) job.
