Does the Buda 230 gas have any advantage over the 226? More torque? Looks like it revs more.

could you narrow the question a bit. What are the uses of the power plants?

I've watched 230 gas powered tractors at the tractor pulls and they can really light up. That's the only experience I have had with them. Similar to the 262 in my D19. Nice smooth power in the 262 with good power but no where near the governor action as a 226.

If there ever would have been a WD-55 or a D-18 tractor, my guess is, the G-230 might have been the engine of choice (at a higher RPM). As it was, the four cylinder did the job and probably cost less than a six cylinder.

My vision for years of the WD-55 was the G-230 @1800 RPM with an 11 inch diameter foot clutch, an 8 inch diameter triple disk hand clutch and a 7 speed transmission with 3-speeds faster than each existing gear (for in-between speeds) except road gear, a longer wheel base and 16.9 x 28 tires. Could have been a real contender in the 53 HP class in 1953.

back in the day a lot of the 262 gas were put in small dump trks. farm trks. etc, and worked well . Now if you took a 235 head, opened up the water passages in the end of the head and did nothing else you could work the heck out of the small V8,s. It really woke that little 262 up. Leon Cmo
