I am replacing the engine in my 1959 D 17 with a 226 gas from a 170 AC, the problem is the points/ timing assembly is I think the same but the dowl pin doesnt line up on the 170 block with the assembly from the d 17 engine. I am just taking the parts off the d 17 226 and puting them on to the 170 226 . what should I do. Can I use just tap out the dowl pin and bolt it on or will that do damage to the timing gear, or do I need a different timing points assembly . If anyone would have some knowlede on this please let me know thanks.
