74 would be Worse as would be a SC Cummins, Cams are NLA, heads are iffy, the old Injector models have been updated to Top Stops but pushrods and cam boxes are become Unobtanium.  So long as cab was decent could legitimately do a repower and reframe to something Late Model as a C15 or 16 Cat, a N14 Cummins or up to a ISX, Detroit 60 Series power would do nice in that.  But everything would have to go except cab and chassis.

Was looking at a '63 Autocar DC series truck that needed TONS of work to make even just Show use Drivable where the old series Cummins even as had been overhauled was useless.  Had what was known as a Double Disc Pump, bolted to side of engine block, weighed over forty pounds.  Are SOME internals for those in UK but not much where nearly every small part for the fuel system now has to be hand produced.  Guy that ended up buying it made it into a Rat Rod custom as nothing else could do with it.

Know of TWO Hall Scott Gasoline powered Peterbilts, both still run but parts are non existent right down to gaskets, all have to be hand made each time need one.  Sit as Museum pieces these days.

Reading all the information on years, makes, models, engines, transmissions, suspensions, obsolete parts. . . . . .I shake my head in wonder.  Dad was set on me buying a semi for the farm.  Sprung it on me just a couple weeks ago and wanted it done for this fall's harvest.  He had found a couple candidates in ag publications.  They were CHEAP, I'll give it that.

But holy crap, where to begin?  I can look over a tractor, and see the good bad and ugly.  A semi?  I'm sure I could learn enough to do some good, but it's overwhelming to think I could do it all in a month or so!  Buying something 48 years old with 700,000 miles on it, and have it be safe and worthy to be 80,000 - 100,000 pounds going down the road?  Whew, I'm not self confident enough for that.

I got out of it, simply told him the budget didn't see buying a truck this year!

ABS began hitting in large volumes in the 1980s/90s, now is standard on all braking systems, air valves as on my KW are Obsolete where at some point will fail and will require upgrade, the latest style are CAN Bus, Will Not Function on my machine where ABS may just disappear on it if they become the only option out there, at least currently there are less High Tech electronic control valves still available.

Past several days endeavors has been the R Fr Fender.

This morning is so far so good.

Ended up stripping it Two Times after repaint from solvent bubble fix, This is this mornings result after four Gnats picked out, three runs on first coat sanded out and a final spot paint for the last gnat on three full coats.  Paint is complete, clear will start at around 9-9:30

Come morning will be stripping mask off, then the job of blend buffing clear lines and soft sanding runs on the blue starts, then finish off the accessory reinstalls.  By end of next week should be OUTSIDE!!!

Bumper and grill insert not on yet, not ordered insert or the Insulation package for under hood, will be awhile.  Have to cut and drill rear fender mount frame plates, get them bolted up, right door latch still not functional from inside, yet everything else I pulled for paint is back on.  Not the slickest paint ever put down but shines nice at a distance.  Phantom Gray compliments the blue really well.

The blue is what it was originally painted, the front fenders are painted KW Phantom Gray Metallic, makes a nice complimenting contrast.

Managed to get Fenders on back fitted up, brackets reconstructed and frame painted.  All 8 drives are now installed and fenders have been positioned to the shop for rehab & paint.

I installed the Tail/Stop & BU lamps in the tail plate this morning, have configured wiring to allow a Plug In system for Fender lamping.

Don, looked up WTI, had never used it before!!

We are going to pull a Fifth Wheel with this, MINIMIZE thrown object Damage by tires.  Numerous companies use them dragging Tub Dump Trailers as have little to no coverage as with a Van Style or even a conventional flat bottom dump trailer.  Heavy Equipment haulers as from where these came from also use them to mitigate tossed mud or stones to passers by and passing autos.

I am currently rehabbing these in my little shop to get ready to paint them the gray color.

Well the Gray got throwed out!!

Seems there is a Higher Power determined to save my sorry butt on occasion.  Ordered the paint and KNEW was reading the numbers off the Gray Can, and it was that Gray Paint Can, HOWEVER, ended up the entire paint for the truck order was on the label, and I ordered the Blue.

SO, fenders are ready where even did decent job cutting out tire openings along that red line, awaiting a delivery of Epoxy Primer and Primer Sealer today, already have the paint and MIGHT, MAYBE spray just the Lamp Boxes on the rear of the fenders with the Gray, MAYBE.

Got hot after primer this morning, was allowing that to cure and started aligning to mix up the paint, lo and behold WRONG Color blue.  Imagine that.

Paint cans BACK Out from under bench, DID order the Gray, 908947 coded, this Blue is Powder Blue and is code 909847, they transposed two numbers.   So trip to Body shop to reorder as Epoxy gains cure and where after 12 hours will require sanding to get paint to adhere.  Yea for me.
On a Side Note, been actively dealing with Odie the Dachsy, fell off the bed the other night, currently on tramadol and rest so swelling issues will dissipate.  Stumbles a little on hind legs.
Then today get him out for a pee and walk, head back to house and once inside he starts acting really weird as to not using rear legs to stand after laying down and then I see it.  Entangled in his tail is a Yellow Jacket, he stepped on that with Rt Rr foot and now are trying to coax parts of a Benedryl down his throat with NO Luck.  At least he got on couch and is resting softly breathing is OK and just asleep.
