My simplicity sunstars hyd is very erratic when cold. steering, trans and lift. Whines a little bit. Don’t rember being that way in the past. Looks like it’s about an inch hi in the plastic line. .what could be wrong with it? Seems to be better when warmed up, but still not as good as it was. Does it have a belt that drives the hyd pump?

No, there are no belts in the driveline. How does your powersteering feel? The old sunstrands all have a whine to them, some more than others. I agree, fluid and filter and give it another shot.

If the hydrostatic level is high, that's because there's water in the bottom pushing it up. Do you like hydrostatic drive? if so, empty that stuff out immediately, and refill it with fresh new... it doesn't take much water through a hydrostatic pump to ruin it.

When it's really cold, it's always better to leave water in the hydrostat system, particularly inside the pump, so when it freezes, it can expand in the passageways and close-fitment parts, and break castings and internal parts... Would be best if you could drag it into a heated shop, and drain it ASAP... I've replaced too many broken up hydrostats

OK changed the oil with type F trans fluid and filter. No water. The oil was still reddish, not dirty and no burnt smell to it. The filter was very, very loose. Could it have sucking air? Everything, hyd, steering and trans works like new, no hesitation at all.
