 Topic: Adding Press Wheels to Grain Drill

Has anyone ever added press wheels to an older drill? I have a 1950s-era John Deere FB-A drill, but if something worked on an AC or any other brand of older drill it would be a similar concept.
I searched and couldn't even find any pictures of AC drills with press wheels. They did not seem to be a common option on the JD and IH drills of the time. So far I think my options are to luck into a set from another drill or a complete parts drill with them, which hasn't happened over the last couple of years, or buy some new press wheels and fabricate something similar to the original JD attachment that attaches where the foot board goes.
Our understanding of what's needed for good germination sure has come a long way from dragging covering chains.

Here's a picture of the JD press wheel attachment on a FB-B drill, which is probably identical to what would've gone on my drill. I was thinking of making something similar.

Maybe put a hitch on the back of your drill and tow a culti-packer.

After I plant hay/alfalfa, I roll it with what we call a mulcher, a cultipacker with rollers front and back with spring teeth in the center. I keep the teeth up and drive at right angles to the way I plant. Smooths the seed bed and helps germination.

I would do that if I could even find a cultipacker around here. I'm not sure if they've just become more popular and everyone snaps them up, or if it's a regional thing and not many people used them around here to begin with, so not many around.
A cultipacker would be nice for broadcast seeding, too. The guy I worked for in high school had me broadcast Teff on his ATV and then run a cultipacker over it, and it turned out great.

I know exactly what you're talking about. We referred to them as cultimulchers where I grew up. I wish I could find a halfway decent one. The guy I worked for in high school had an old John Deere that we used several times.

That would be another route, true. I hate to give up on this one though since it's in great shape, has the small seed box, and is a good match for my B in size.

Those are about what I'm looking for, just hopefully not 5-6 hours away. My drill is only 7' wide so if pulling behind it I would need something a little smaller, but I may have to make that being an odd width. Alternatively doing a quick pass after seeding with a 12' packer wouldn't be that bad but it sure is nice to get things done in one pass instead of two.
I see Agrisupply has 9 1/2" wheels for $13.29 each after the bulk discount, so that might be another option if I'm willing to make something.

I have all three; drag chains, press wheels and cultipacker. If you use the cultipacker be sure the tongue is long enough to allow you to turn very short. I have damage packer wheels while turning too tight.
