I know Weasler 35N 1-3/16" square tube/sleeve would work, but I'd rather get the entire "front 2/3" of the driveshaft to make life easier with the little time I have and not have as much fab work involved. I know, just replace the machine lol, but since the late 70s this pull-behind mower has been kicking butt. The PTO tube/sleeve had significant twist in it when I bought it many years back, and it's been worked hard since then. But with regular mowings of idle fields delayed until now when the goldenrod is over my head while I'm ON the tractor, I missed an old stump... and this time the tube twisted in half instead of the shear pin.
Suggestions?

you should call them, and describe what you have on the phone... I would guess the length is different for some tractors... and the PTO coupling might vary also.... they should get it right over the Phone.

Thanks Steve, I got an email reply from German-Bliss stating that they had nothing (they did a year ago when I was looking for one as a "just in case" part!!! Total was only $260 at that time...) in stock, and they had called Woods Corp. to see if they had anything. The answer was: Obsolete machine and parts. So, nope.
I've found a few Weasler 35N tube/sleeves available (new), and will go that route if I can't find any complete used ones, even an old whole mower for parts would do. If it weren't for the "Field Goal Post" configuration of the hitch/frame that the PTO passes through, I'd just go with a proper-length single piece PTO shaft. But the design of the machine will not permit much up/down or side-to-side movement of such a single-piece shaft at all, and I need to make some sharp turns at times. If I hadn't just replaced the blades this year, I'd be re-purposing the gearbox, salvaging what I could and hauling the rest to the scrapyard and looking for another pull-behind. I can't use the 3-pt. hitch mowers in some of the tight places I mow in the woods. I've even been looking for parts haybines and balers to see if I can use/modify them. Funny how they disappear the minute you really NEED one lol!

I've seen pto shafts at the farm stores, TSC, Family Farm and Home. You can't find anything at your local store?

Not all are the same lol but thank you, I have looked. Not many in the right size/series, and more than a few of the 35N series (1-3/16" square shaft/tube) shown are long enough that I'd have to cut to fit and drill/tap a new hole for the grease fitting. Not a problem but at $200+ I'd rather find something that's the right fit. Picky, I know. Cheaper online, too.

Also, the full length of the tube/sleeve is not necessarily square, and by cutting I'm reducing the already minimal contact surface area.

Tracy, thanks - the front (connect to tractor PTO) section is fine, the rear/solid shaft is fine, it's the sleeve/tube, some call it the female section. That combo (shaft and tube) is pretty much always in a straight line between the gearbox and the - pillow bearing? Anyways, sorry the link is so outdated and not more clear. Twisted like a twizzler. Surprised how thin that steel is in the sleeve after the square internal ends.

Tim, does the front of rear PTO shaft carry the carrier bearing? Might be able to just remove the female sleeve and replace it. If careful , it wouldn't be a big problem. Make sure the yokes are oriented correctly. HTH Tracy

I'd go to agrisupply or surplus center, and see if either has anything you can use. Only thing that matters is the HP rating and sizes/shapes of the ends on the outer yokes...

Thanks Tracy, that's Plan A lol... Plan(s) B, C, D etc. involve what I wrote above about converting haybine/baler/etc. PTO driveshafts. Dave, all we have around here are dealerships and Tractor Supply. Used to be a few boneyards but no more. The dealerships are crazy pricey here. And if you're not one of their big customers you get the bum's rush. But when I need something I just cringe and go anyhow. And remember to hold my tongue... And yup, I was able to determine that Woods used Weasler 35N series shafts/yokes/yadda yadda yadda.

When we need a PTO for the farm just take it off and grand forks welding is a driveline shop they make PTO and drive shafts for many farms get it right done today if you need it today. Ask any large truck repair or implement dealer where they get their drive line work done. A custom drive shaft for my lifted suburban was $350 new cardigan new tube and new u joints only thing reused was the yoke and.spun balancing included.

Shipping probably not too bad, ac-mike. But this one twisted and broke like a straw at the point where the internal squared part of the sleeve ended and opened up to the totally hollow part of the tube. Worth sending? I did find that the Weasler PN is 11003548. Cheapest I've found with shipping is $144.55, at rotarycuttersupply.com. Not sure if Komrade Kuomo has worked out a deal where they have to collect sales tax, too. Locally, they want about $220 + tax for the same exact part number. Tractor Supply, $200. I may have a line on an old New Holland parts haybine PTO drifeshaft assembly, hope to look at it this weekend. I know, beating a dead horse, just replace it lol!
