Finally got an answer from Sandy Lake Brenda. The head gasket kit she has was made by Mahle. No number on it. Any thoughts. Good? Bad? Same as Reliance? So not Fel-Pro or Victor. Edited by modirt - 30 Nov 2022 at 4:52pm |

Reliance gaskets are junk. Agco gaskets from my knowledge are not reliance.

Very few manufacture head gaskets, especially with fire rings. The dies required to do this run zero clearance on punches and die blocks. The material is very abrasive . Built many for Detroit Gasket.HTH Tracy

I was disappointed when I ordered 3 Mahle head gaskets for B/CA tractors last month. They came in and were same as reliance with 'made in china' sticker on the plastic sleeve, even though they were in Mahle cardboard packaging. I can't sell them cause I don't know if they will function correctly...

What I was afraid of (Mahle). Option C......the head gasket that was on it was working OK. Less than 30 hours run time on it before valved dropped. When we installed that new, did it dry as per instructions on gasket. It came off free when we pulled the head. It is a bit dirty, but is intact. Any chance that can be put back?

Perhaps you should resume making them for Allis engines? You could be the exclusive provider!

I've re-used good original gaskets quite a few times in the past, especially when replacements are just not available. Just cleaned them up really well with solvent or brake kleen, then after drying, spray both sides with a good coat of aluminum spray paint. Install after paint has dried. I've never had one fail.

I would not reuse a head gasket without using a new fire ring. MACK

I had issues with a 180 diesel head gasket from Reliance ,ordered one from Agco and got the identical gasket I got from Reliance ( did not use sent it back) .Found a NOS allis gasket to fix problem . And this was on a rebuild that block was decked and head resurfaced .

Was set to order until I saw notice seller would not accept returns. So sent seller a question asking if these OEM were NOS or made in China with Allis part numbers on them. That was yesterday, No reply back. Seller is A1-Ag parts in Iowa. Has 100% + feedback. Either is or isn't. It's an easy question.

Option D. As noted on the original post, I have two different NOS Victor gaskets, no fire ring. How would a guy add a fire ring to those gaskets? What is involved......how is it done? |

Depends on how close gasket comes to inside of cylinder wall. Fire ring needs to set on outside diameter of sleeve. Gasket may need to be machined to outside of sleeve.

Time for an update. As has been noted in this thread, there appears to be two valid NOS gasket numbers. One is a Victor 3145. I was mistaken thinking what we had put on was a Fel-Pro. It was the 3145 and it fit and worked well. Second valid number appears to be Fel-Pro 7914. Both Victor and Fel-Pro gaskets heavy built and both have fire rings. BUT.....they are not the same. Hole patterns are different. Hoping somebody can explain why. So here are the two hole patterns: Gasket on left is actually a Victor 3332 (no fire rings) but is same hole pattern as 3145. Gasket on right is the 7914. Note on upper right corner is an extra hole. Not only that, but the three holes for coolant are different sizes on the Victor (and almost all others) but are large and same size on Fel-Pro 7914. So on the extra hole, there is no corresponding hole in the block, but there is in the head. Why is that? And on the variable sized coolant holes, the holes in the head and block are all the same size (same as Fel-Pro 7914, but on Victor gasket, they are three different sizes? Why is that? One theory is holes get larger from front to back.....so small hole closest to water pump allows limited flow, getting larger as you move aft.....doing so means coolant water is forced to back of engine vs. taking first exit it comes to (first large hole to front of engine). As noted on photos below, holes in both block and head are large, holes in gasket smaller and restrictive. No clue why. Given all this, which gasket is MOST correct? Why does the gasket on the left look to be an inch or more LONGER than the gasket on the right ?????????

Must be an optical illusion. When placed one on top of the other, same size. Differ only in hole patterns. Picture of gasket on Reliance website, similar to the one on the right (Fel-Pro). Most others on Amazon, ebay, etc are like Victor, with small holes, missing hole. Still trying to understand why the head has a hole, but block doesn't. One gasket blocks it off at the head (Victor), the Fel-Pro put a hole in gasket, but that is a dead end, going only as far as thickness of gasket. But apparently both work. Just strange to see them side by side like that and have them different.
