Put a coil, gas, tire and wheel, and a hot battery in started and drove the tractor today. Donor engine put in the shed. Dad and I came up with a plan to see if we can fix this issue of liner drop and blocks cracking in the 230 diesel engine.

It's not a matter IF it can be fixed. It's only a matter how deep your pockets are and how much you want to have invested in it. Peanut butter fixes do NOT work on a BD230.  Send the block and head to Nevada Ia and you get back usable parts in exchange for $$$$. While that is going on you send the pump and injectors out for repair and order the  gasket set, and overhaul kit. Set  aside 7K. You may have some left over but better than budgeting 5K and finding out it wasnt enough!!

I understand. After looking a the block where the ledge is, I have determined that this engine will fail due to liner movement. I have a good block to start with. I'm going to use modern diesel technology to see if I make make a 230 live and not have head gasket failure, liner drop, and junk block. I have made some calls to different places to see about parts. So far it looks like mine and Dads (Don MO) idea might work. Going to take some R and D to get where i want. But I think it'll work.

Be sure to post the results. There was a company in L.A. IIRC that produced custom sleeves with an oblong flange to combat the sleeve movement. I don't remember the name, just that I'd have gone that way when I did mine.

The gas engine will probably stay in it for awhile till I build the diesel. I might make a WD 65 out of it for awhile that way I can pull a plow in roadgear.
