We have an Allis Chalmers 8000 series that i would like to add Auto steering to plant with. I would like to know if anyone has a part number(s) for the load sensing control valves and steering position sensor that i should be looking for? i am hoping to find them used if possible,

I use case-IH/trimble in my 8070. That's the one with the motor and little rubber wheel that turns the steering wheel. Worked good for me. Darrel

We use Agleader with the motor that turns the steering wheel.
It works well.
The hydraulic type that taps into the steering would also be nice, but it might be more trouble than what it is worth.

I'm looking into auto steer as well for my 7060. What made you go with Ag Leader over Trimble? That seems like what most people put in their Allis's

My brother bought it. He uses it on his 8070 we use to plant. WAAS not rtk, but our corn rows look good.
We also plan to put one on our sprayer. You can move components fairly easy, we wanted a separate unit so we would have a backup available on the farm if needed.
He just liked the unit.. Not aware of any specific featured. But we do like the way it works.

I used a JD universal auto steer system on my 8070, what I liked was you replaced the whole steering wheel, so you didn't have a big motor hanging off to the side, looked neat and compact, worked good.

What was the cost to go with Deere? I like the thought of rtk, but waas is cheaper

Check with ILGleaner. He might have just what your looking for.
We run a Trimble 750 with Easy Steer and field IQ. It turns the planter on & off at the end rows, middle end rows, and point rows. I still use the markers and run on the free signal. Now I steer it with the nudge arrows as needed.

Biggest thing I'd like GPS for is for planting beans with my 20' tye drill. It doesn't have markers on it and I can't see where I've planted with it to save my life. Looked at buying markers, but good markers cost about as much as auto steer. And I'd get more use out of the auto steer

I have two of the John Deere ATU steering wheel units and I love them. I used them for the last 4 or 5 seasons. You can plant with sf2 you don't have to have RTK. You can also use a repeater to improve accuracy.

Your correct the EZ Steer with the motor dose not use any angle sensor. We run four EZ steer systems plus some intergrated systems. The EZ steer is by far the simplest the mount up. Everything is inside the cap. Weve planted sugar beets and corn with ours they do a good job. Look into EZ Pilot, if they make a steering wheel adaptor that is away nicer system. You replace your steering wheel with the trimble steering wheel with a motor built into the base of the wheel. That way you get the simplicity but dont have that big wheel in the way. We put EZ Pilots in two of our Versatiles becuase the EX steer motors were really hard on the steering colums with the added weaight.

VA farm boy, I used to feel that way, too. Especially whenthey first came out, and people were paying 50 grand for auto steers. But I have always been pretty adomant about having straight rows, and when I was still in partnership with my brother in law, and his motto was that you could get more seed in a crooked row, it would make my blood boil. Then, about five years ago, I bought a used tractor from a guy, and he left the auto steer in it for me. After using it, I wouldn't be without it. Straight rows. ...I love em. Darrel

In 2013, we couldn't plant because the rains that spring would not stop. I just installed a used Trimble 250 in the 7045. Sewed 700 acres of oats with it. The old tractor pulling the spreader made straight passes ever 36' apart.
Planting after dark, there is no good way to know if you are into the end rows far enough and can lift the planter. We have Trimble 750's with the Field IQ and now the planter turns on and off automatically on the first inside end row. Our old rear fold Kinze's plant like new top of the line Kinze, Deere, CaseIH, or White with the ISO computers. And they can do it on the free signal.
They are a TV remote control or your garage door remote. Do you need it? No. Then don't ever use one, or you will need one, or two, or three, or more.

We have them on my main tractors. One of my younger brother's is handicapped, he is perfectly capable of operating a tractor, but would have trouble making pass to pass, either being too wide, or to far overlapped. With auto-steer, this is not a problem; We have extra help when we need it, and he has a purpose. I'm insulin dependent, when planting, the stress of planting was screwing with my diabetes. Now you might think this is not stressful, and I might not think it's stressful, but my body said otherwise. Since going to auto steer on the planting tractor, it has made the difference as to if I could continue to farm or not. But besides that, when planting, I can turn around in the tractor seat, and actually watch the planter. Same way with combining, the system steers, and I'm taking notes, not to mention the fact, it makes 40' heads easier to operate. The way I look at it is, I don't want to be an equipment driver, I want to be an equipment operator.

Our two planter tractors have integrated auto steer with Agleader InCommand monitors. They will plant over the hills with +-1" accuracy. These monitors will actually communicate with each other so I can see where dad planted and he can use my AB line. His row shut offs will also go off on my end rows. I didn't like the idea of auto steer before, but I've planted 3 years now without using a marker arm, and there is no worry about being off a row on corn. We would plant 200 acres a day and be wore out at the end of the day, now we could plant 300 acres and not be as tired.

Hey 7060, are your 2 planter tractors Allis Chalmers. I run RTK Trimble on our Green bedding tractor and like not having the wheel motor in the cab. We plant most of our crops on beds. It is a necessity. I would like to find a neat way to put it on the 8070 without the wheel motor and spending $20k. If I could get it to work I could have more orange and not so much green.

Unfortunately they are not. They are tracked challengers. The tracked tractors and a lot of the newer tractors come autosteer ready and you don't need to mess with the valve. You can buy the valve and harness and install it yourself for about $7000 if I remember right, and then install agleader steercommand. Your best bet for a super easy installation would be the new agleader Ontrac3. You install a ring gear on the bottom of the steering wheel, and then the steering control attaches to it. You can move it to another tractor/sprayer pretty easy and it doesn't have that finger pinching motor running on the outside of the wheel.

Thank you for the replies but does anyone have the model number off the control valve that i need to be looking for? The main reason I want the hydraulic valve control is it is a more accurate system that is not affected by hydraulic drift in the orbital motor. The reason I'm looking at auto steer is two fold. First is I have two bulged discs in my neck and planting really is really aggravates it. Second is I see a planter with row shut off in the future. Planting no-till at night is difficult also. |

I know this is a old post but I’m running Ag leader integra with auto swath row shut offs on a kinze 8-15 planter. I’m thinking of adding on track 3. I’m already invested in Ag leader. Just wondering if anyone knows of any more reasonable options for auto steer. Anything compatible with Ag leader monitor.

We are an Outback dealer in Illinois. Hydraulic auto steer on WAAS would be about 7k. Steering wheel system on WAAS is about $500 more.

I don’t have any luck posting pictures on this forum. Deere has a mounting kit that is basically a u bolt. It’s simple and have hubs that fit any model.
