I have a wc carb I'm trying to fit to a D17 engine. THe Carb fits OK, but the governor on the D17 moves toward the front and the carb hits the stop thus not moving. I looked at pictures of D17 carbs and they seem to work the same way as the WC. Could something be backward in the Governor?

A WC carb is going to be waaaaay to small to feed a D17 engine. Governor works the same on all W series engines so I'm not sure why it won't work as you're stating though. Post pics will help

I went over to Jim Campbell's and looked at his D17. It convinced me that I either have a Gleener governor, or mine is hosed up some way. I'm going to try and locate a proper D17 governor. Thanks, DAve

A Gleaner governor won't have an arm to come to the carb like a regular carb since they had a throttle cable directly to the carb. What's the serial stamped on the block behind the carb?

Well, I changed the front plate on the D17 with a WC which has the lever. My problem was the linkage between the governor up right shaft and the carburetor was too short by about and inch. I build a longer link, and problem solved. Thanks for the help, Dave

That link is very sensitive... Did you have to fabricate the original one? I have been there and done that... Finally made it adjustable with a turnbuckle. No more searching of the governor or lack of throttle.
