    Posted: 18 Apr 2011 at 6:17pm
Iam looking at using my 220 to run a 10ft New Holland discbine.  The discbine is 540 and of course the 220 is 1000 rpm.  I am guessing I would need to run the 220 at around 17 - 1800 rpm to run the discbine ?  Will I have enough torque to run 5- 6 mph and run the discbine at that low rpm ?

Thanks for your help

Brad

1000 pto rpm is about 2200 rpm on the engine......540 on the pto is 1188 rpm on the engine.

I am going to say that 1200 rpm will not run me 5 mph with the discbine under load.

Should be 5.13 mph at 1188 rpm in 6th gear.....depends a little on rear tire size, but this would be with 18.4 x 38's.

You may be surprised what it will do at 1200 rpm.  I run my round baler with my 210 like the way you are inquiring about and it will bale well into the red zone on the bale pressure gauge before the engine starts losing rpm.

I am baling in 6th gear with 20.8 38 tire.

Some discbines had interchangeable gearboxes that could be flipped around for either pto input.  What model are you looking at? And what hitch/pto type is it?

I'm with AMOS, that old 220 will just grunt a little more at 1200 RPM, than if it were up around 2200.  We ran the 190XT (1000 pto) with a 540 6 row shredder all the time at aroun 12-1500RPM, and all she did was snort a bit more, and used even less fuel doing it.

I think I will give it a try.  I also need to check the tach to make sure it is accurate.
The 220 has 23.5 x 32.  Does anyone have a speed chart for that size tire?  I will probably run 12 - 1500 rpm and would like to be around 6 mph.

Thanks for all the help.

18.4 x 38 is the same as 24.5 x 32 for speed.

We run our auger on a 7000 at 1400 rpm. Maybe we are running to fast but it sounds about right.
