I bought a portable skylink satellite internet system and it showed up yesterday. In the country where I live unlimited internet is expensive if available at all. Was using AT&T exclusively for phone and internet (hot spot) basically like 2 cell phones. No cable service available. Was limited and always going over . I don't hate Elon like some other billionaires so I will give this system a try. I spend most weekends at my friends place by Pittsfield in the western part of the state bowhunting and helping take care of his property. Cell service has fallen off big time for some reason over there. Usually only can get one bar on my phone. Texts only with no photos. Forget about trying to stream anything. I also go out to Utah 2 weeks every year up in the mountains. Hoping this system will take care of any internet needs no matter where I am. So far it's is working great with no snafus . Simple to set up . If I can do it , it must be easy.

Pat, i assume the STARLINK has some type of dish or receiver that you move as you travel... How do you know where to POINT it when you get there ? Maybe its not as restrictive as DISH or DIRECTV on the pointing ?

I had the Verizon Hotspot awhile back, until I got a notice one fall that my service would end in October unless I got an upgrade unit to a 4G model, at a cost to me of nearly $200. Then while talking to the Verizon people I learned that 5G was coming sometime after the first of the year and then I would need to upgrade again or lose service. and yes the limited service was a pain.
Went shopping around and landed at T-Mobile, there hotspot unit is free and the monthly service is much less that what Verizion was. At 100 GB I barely use 20 on a big month. For now, I'm very pleased as long as things stay as they are.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

As I understand it, the Skylink receiver finds the satellite much like the RV satellite dishes.

I don't have one, but I was speaking with a buddy that DID... he says the initial cost was really high (to acquire the unit), had it for about three months, liked the system and service until a hailstorm damaged the shell of the feedhorn/LNA assembly... He called for a replacement, but they refused, said he'd need a whole new assembly, which was considerably more expensive than he was willing. I'm not sure why they'd do that, but if that's what they're doing, they shouldn't... So if you're in an area prone to such circumstances, mebbie put a stout piece of netting over the unit to keep it from getting whacked by falling flying stuff...

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

I’m gonna ask a stupid question.
Can this be used for tv as well? The only way we can get Razorback games is streaming them. We’ve shut off our satellite internet and our tv satellite goes away early November. I don’t care about regular tv just the Razorback football games. |

That being the case, Skylink ought to do just fine unless I'm being dopey and missing the point here?

Thought about Skylink until saw Projected Price increases above the entry cost point. Would replace our Internet and Satellite TV which is also about to change(Direct and DISH are Merging) where those prices for all the above are getting seriously ignorant. Only really good aspect of Skylink is Transportable and no limit of point of use.

I could be wrong about this, but I think Skylink is internet only. I think they will provide nothing for TV. Skylink will provide the same thing your present internet provider does. Skylink provides high speed internet, especially where there is no other option for high speed internet. You will still need to find a streaming service that has the programming you want (Razorback games).
