Has anyone put electronic ignition on a WD with a WICO XB-4000 distributor?  Pertronix said they don't have an application for this distributor.  Is there another company that does?

I dont know if there is something "ODD" about the 4000 model or not.. But the do make one for a WICO distributor... maybe  send a photo of your inards and the shaft diameter and see if they have something "CLOSE" that you could do.....

If they are interested, you MIGHT be able to make a deal with their Engineering Dept to send them your distributor and let THEM see what would fit..... Then you BOTH win ?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

The reason you can't find an electronic ignition kit for a Wico XB-4000 Distributor, is because the Wico XB-4000 is a MAGNETO.

You can find the entire manual here:

The Spec XB-4000 is a clockwise rotation 30 degree advance unit, with a condenser capacity between .30 and .34 Mfd.

The Wico XB-series is actually a bit rare in the Allis realm, MOST of the time, you'll find Bosch-style magnetos either made by Allis, American Bosch, or Fairbanks Morse.  The XB had a centrifugal advance, while Bosch-pattern units used an impulse coupling, and this coupling put the Wico XB at a disadvantage when hand-starting, so the XB's were usually put on machines that were fitted with electric start from the factory.

I have two generators that are exciter-cranked were fitted the Wico XB specifically for that reason... they were never intended to be regularly hand-started.

If you're trying to affect a restoration, and your WD came originally with the XB, take it to a magneto guy and have it refurbished.  If authenticity isn't a concern, and you want electronic ignition, get a distributor drive system and a Delco distributor from a donor tractor, have the Delco gone through (the distributor shaft bushing, especially) and use the common-and-popular Pertronix kit...  but don't discard the XB.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

By the way, Gene-

You're missing a string:

But don't fret it:

Just try to stay out of treble.
