7030 Black Cab tractor.

I bought this 7030 last weekend with the some tranny issues cheap (Really Cheap !!!) Anyways the serial number is 1814 and it has the Black Pillers on the cab face. I know the 7030 and the 7050 when introduced has this. My question is was this the just first year models or what ? Cant find anywhere where they say they painted this. I am thinking of taking the cab off and putting on my other one and make this into a open station tractor.

On page 171 in Norm's great big book of everything, it tells that yours is made in 1973. It is the first year that they were made starting with S.N. 1001-2594.

Are you sure??? The first one should have been 1001 (or higher).

4w220 serial number 1000 was the prototype, first owner had to finish out the cab interior and paint the tractor, as it was primer green still. Engine spun a main and owner converted to 8.3 cummins, which made a very efficient and easy starting tractor. Had to pull up the floor covering once, and metal floor was marked out in 3 inch grids, which were all numbers. I asumed that this was done do design the floor mats.

Early (1973)7030's and 7050's had a plastic cab roof with flashing lights built into the roof....also the cab was painted black around the windshield at this time. By mid 1974?? the roof was metal, flashing lights were moved down to the cab structure and black paint scheme was all orange. The new 7040-7060-7080 came out in Fall (Oct?) of 1974 and also had the metal roof, etc. I'm sure if the roof was plastic, the cab was black around the windshield on the 7030-50's.

All the 7030s and 7050s Ive seen have the plastic roof, could be the last ones had the steel. All the 7040s and 7060s had the steel roof. I changed a couple of plastic roofs over to steel, had to move the lites down on the cab, otherwise the steel roof bolted right on.

Seems to me early 7040 and 60 had front flashers in the roof yet like 7030 and 50?

Hey Darryl,

Before you go tearing into that tractor, take a set of test guages to the hydro test port on the right rear of the diff, off the line with a "T" by the right hand 3-point ram.

We had a 7030 this summer do exactly what you discribed. No 3-point, no remotes, PTO brake wouldn't hold, PTO wouldn't engage, stearing dead or almost dead, clutch very slopply at best, no differential lock, two speed clutched sliped, etc. Basically everything hydro related was near dead or already dead.

Turns out the front variable volume pump was pulling air by a bad o-ring. On the pump there are two access plates (about a 1-3/4" dia.) held in with cir-clips, behind those plates, are the wobble plate bearings, and the pump suction side of the pump body. When it was cold, nothing worked, when it warmed up, things only kinda worked. With thick oil it was pulling tons of air, with warm oil it was pulling lots of air. Based on all of the service diagrams in the manual, it didn't make sence that all the systems would be affedcted, but I changed the o-rings, and bamb, everything worked perfectly. Brand new tractor.

Hope this turns your $1800 investment, into an $1825.00 perfect tractor.
