Hello everybody!
My name is Cyril. I'm now repairing a small locomotive equiped with an Allis Chalmer diesel engine 6138LT. I have done the overhaul of the engine but I need your help. During the transportation from the engine repair workshop to home, the carrier has broken the oil pan of the engine. I'm looking for a new oil pan or a good second hand. Do you know where I can find & buy it? Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards. Cyril

Many models used essentially the same base block. HD16, HD21, and some TS scrapers used the 6138 in different power variations but should all fit same or very similar oil pan. i would guess all these models used the same deep oil pan and scavange pump system. Now being a locomotive engine, its possible the deep pan is not used, in which case could possibly be found on power unit engines, generator etc. The shallow flat bottom pan was used on american tractor models 8550 and 4w-305. I would not think difficult to find either way in the USA, France who knows.

Hello,
Thanks for your prompt reply. It is what I think so... On my engine, the oil pan bottom is (near) flat... |

Hello,
The oil pan is a casted part. My engine is: Model: 6138-LT Serial number: 14-01247 Catalogue: 4395772 9-7451- If somebody have or can find a part who can suit my need, I'm interested in.... Unfortunatly, Allis Chalmer engines are unknown in France....

The engine is ready after a complete rebuilding.
I finally didn't find any oil pan, so we do a new one (casted)....
By the way, the engine make some smoke until the engine working temperature of 80-90°C is not attempt. What do you think about? |

Sorry for being late in posting to this thread, I just saw it. For future info remember that AC used different oil pans on each engine series. The pans may look the same on the outside but, they had different internal baffling and it was based on the application the engine was going into.
During my time at the Harvey Engine plant that engine with the "small" turbo was referred to as the 17,000 series; that might be of help when looking for parts.
