Mine is pecan eventhough we don’t have any pecan trees around here. I have a friend from Jonesboro that brings me a bunch every year from their family property.
It’s a good winter pass time to crack and pick the pecans. Jenn saves the nice whole ones for pie and uses the broken ones for other deserts. |

Never had nor heard of it. Sounds good. A few years back I made a couple old fashioned buttermilk pies that I thought were good. |

Well,,my favorite is pecan,,even tho I gots to really watch the sugar,,,I'm a 'crunchy" type of eater and I just like pecans. I've got a big pecan tree right in front of the house but the last 2-3 years the crop and size have been kinda small for some reason,,,,I keep a pan on front porch for snackin on them when I'm sittin there watchin the people drive by,,,,

If I had to pick one, it would be pecan. My daughter makes the best I have ever had, even better than what Mom used to make and I back then hers were the best. My wife makes a great lemon pie, nice and tart. Tree rats and crows got all of our pecans this year.

My mother makes pies. Coconut and banana cream are two that folks ask for the most. She makes one called Southern Magnolia. I am not sure what kind of nut is in it, but OH MY, is it good. Put some ice cream along side it and you got heaven on a plate.

I've only turned my nose up at the mention of 2, mincemeat and shepherds, all the rest are #1. My favoritest favorite was burnt sugar, (like a caramel), back in the day when I could eat anything without gaining weight.

I had a piece of apple pie with raisins in it one time. It was about two times thicker than a normal pie. I was in KC MO and saw it in a pie case and that was all it took. I didn't think I would like the raisins but they turned out to add a great extra flavor. I have never seen one like it since, and I'll never forget it. I won't eat rhubarb, lemon, any kind with marange. The Cheesecake Factory makes some good pies. If it's cut in a wedge I consider it pie!

My mom makes a mean rhubarb pie, makes the crust from scratch and doesn't overload the filling with sugar. You get the tart of the rhubarb, love that stuff! Mom and her sister were talking at thanksgiving diner how none of my generation have learned how to make angel-food cake. They both make a great one. Sadly will probably be a lost art in a few years, too labor intensive for me to learn.

Wasn't sure if that was holiday pies or pies in general? Sounds like in general. Best fruit pies in season are cherry, peach, apple and blackberry, plus for the odd tastes......gooseberry and rhubarb. The latter two are an acquired taste. You either love them or hate them. Up home, local restaurant is known for their pies and they sometimes have gooseberry (from canned filling......not the real deal), yet few people know about it, as there is a regular and if he gets there first, he will usually buy the entire pie. A true gooseberry freak will crawl across the room on broken glass to get a piece. There may be a state law that mandates a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on a slice of gooseberry pie. Best cream pies are coconut, raisin, pineapple cream, and chocolate.......assuming all are made with a cooked custard filling and the latter is made from chocolate squares and not powdered cocoa. Semi-related, but lacking the big topping is a chess pie. And pumpkin.....love pumpkin.....even when it's made with a squash. Then there is pecan.....which is made all the better if you can get your hands on some of our northern hard shell pecans.....plus don't tell anybody, but my secret ingredient is 1/2 cup of mini sized dark chocolate chips. And lastly, mincemeat........which is a traditional holiday season pie......made with several fruits.....applies, currents, spiced peaches, etc, plus real meat. I use a nice beef chuck. Like gooseberry, you love it or hate it. All of them enhanced if you use lard and a low gluten soft wheat flour like While Lilly for your crust.
