well, it obviously has the latest Krylon paint job available. He said that it has been gone through from top to bottom and the clutch seems good. If it had been gone through from top to bottom he woould have installed at least a new clutch disc and would know with certainty the condition of the clutch. $2000 is a little high.

It is likely that he is trying to get some money back from what he did, and perhaps a little "pay" for his efforts. It is sad to say, but it is most likely that no B would ever recoup the time and materials cost of bringing it back to "near museum quality".

Exceptions to the B value rules would be the Waukesha B, Potato Special, Asparagus Special or one of the 260 IB's with the B serial number. They would be worth putting a lot of attention to.

When I moved to my place in 1978 nice B's & C's were $1500-$2000. I ended up with a $650.00 WD. It had a loader, heat house, weights, & a 6' snow bucket. Why do people hesitate at buying a B with a Woods mower, that will last a lifetime (with a little care of course) but will think nothing at spending that much on a Lowes throwaway mower to mow their 3 acre lawn?...Harvey

Glenn, It has been meticulously gone through from top to bottom. That's why you see silver paint on the tires, no clamps on the air breather  tube and a hose clamp on the shifter boot. I wonder why the brakes are in the locked position and aren't locked??

It is a rattle can overhaul, you can put 2K in a motor quick, maybe he is trying to re-coup some money spent. Not saying it is worth 2K, just trying to justify his price. Does look like it has decent rubber.

I do have a D14 I would consider selling, I would need 2 for it, not worth 2, motor and clutch are new, like I siad I would need 2 for it but it aint worth 2

Maybe its the hard to find plow bail brackets that command a high price, or the the rare boob in the rear where the more common PTO would be. Cal in Ct.

Harvey, it's because most folks are not skilled at fixing anything much less a 50 year old tractor even if that tractor is very simple.  The fact that the vintage tractor has no warranty and the new mower has one.  The box store can finance it also.  Quality has little to do with it.  They live pay check to pay check and can't scrape together enough for the ocasional repair to the old tractor.  Their cost is fixed with financing plus no repairs because of the warranty.  They don't look long term.  It's also why lots of people buy new cars every 3-5 years.  OK off the soap box now.  I'm with you Harvey!

The arch of the front axel looks to be higher than normal. Could it be an asparagus?

Unless I missed it no one remarked about the all steel steering wheel. Rather than repairing the cracks just remove them. That idea has to be worth at least a grand.

Sounds like too much but without driving it who can really say it is too much. Obviously the front axle is not the standard B arched front axle. If it was closer than Corpus I would have to have a look see.

There was a B on Craigslist around Loveland, Colo for $4,500.  It looked nice in the pictures but if I wanted to spend $4500, or even $2000 on an AC, it would be a bit newer.

Not an asparagus B front end. Just looks like it's been really bent up. Doesn't have the high spindles that the asparagus B does.

Your correct on the front end assembly Morten.  The tie rod has been given a steeper bend. That took some real talent to get it narrowed up and keep both sides even and the spindles straight.  I get the idea that the seller wouldn't know what was correct and waht wasn't. Whoever did the work was most likely a hot rod builder or at least read a lot of material on building hot rods.

I first thought it was just a camera angle but looking thru the steering wheel you can tell it has been narrowed up in the front.

Looking thru the steering wheel you might also notice that a bushing was not replaced in the steering tube.

I don't think the front wheel can turn any more than they are as the steering bracket will hit the arch.

How did he know that I liked my tires half silver and my tractor half there? That way it messes with your mind when you watch it move.

Stan, I think we both forget that most people just don't "LOOK GOOD" on an old tractor. You can't impress the neighbors unless its a John Deere or Kubota, LOL...Harvey
