If a d19 is old enough for the class find a gas one and dump the buda put a 301 in 477 with a 301 is easy 477 from a 226 is expensive to do

That would calculate to 4 1/2" bore and a 5 inch stroke.

And that would be A LOT cheaper and more competitive than a 226 didn't say he had to go all the way to. 477 with the 301 still way ahead of a 226

I have taken a 301 to 440 cubes once. Not sure about 477. I'd have to have connecting rods made for that, if there's even room to swing it.

Two things to note about this original post. #1. 7000 pounds is really too heavy for a D-17 chassis and 100 HP to be competitive. #2. If the cubic inch rule is 477, someone will eventually be there. The top of the class will probably not be a 300 cubic inch engine. This is how it will shake out over time. If this is a brand new class, my predictions here may take a while to materialize, but I assure you, in the end the largest engine that is allowed will eventually dominate. You also neglected to specify what size of rear tires that will be allowed. I see no carburetor rule, either size or quantity. The HP of this class could be all over the place from 100 to 500 depending on what creativity the competitors have.

Ok 226 needs 5 in bore and 6 in stroke to get there and that's going to get a expensive moto compared to a 301

Do they have block rules? Stock or factory replacement kind of thing? I have learned that these classes tend to be made for one color of machine. If you cam run any block I see a bunch of red machines with 466 engines dropped in them. Or does MM have a block that big. Either way, its gonna be darn hard to make a D17 competitive. And I doubt 1/4 horse a cube is going to be near enough.

A 17 is still a far cry away. There's a big difference between a 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder.

procure a 2800 gas - do the mods , add 180 sheetmetal - roll the finals back a hole, now you might not end up shooting maggies ' drawers...

I agree with tbran. With a 410 cube limit this is a class a properly augmented 301 gas would be very good at.

Being nosy what orginization will you be puuling with. You just described the 7000 lb class with nkitpa group. Tried a D 17 in that 7000 lb this past year, just not enough frame for the class. U need a 180 or 185. who is looking for a 301? do you want gas or diesal.

Find a gas cylinder head, manifold, big carb, distributer and camshaft and cut 1/4" off the tops of your diesel pistons.
