Trying to pull the gas engine out of my Series 1 D 15 . I'm at the roll shift axle removal part . Is it the same as Dr Allis said for the D 17 ? Never done this before and I wanna do if safely . Thanks !!

I have the four 15/16 bolts facing the front and the four 1+1/8 bolts facing the rear broken loose . Had to use my 4' cheater to do this . Next is putting a jack under the bellhousing ? Thanks !

I wedged 4by4 blocks at the tierod ends to keep the front wheels from going cockeyed twisty and causing a potential nightmare..... the big trick is to use solid wooden blocking for supports and to be very careful.
sure helps to have an extra pair of hands and eyeballs on the job too !

Fav son posted a pic for me . Dunno why it's kinda fuzzy . Got the front end rolled out of the way fairly easy . Thanks to Dr Allis . Also wedged a couple short 2 by 4's on top of the axle under the nose/chin center piece . Thanks Jay .

Where do you fellas attach a chain to the engine to pull it ? Last engine I pulled was a Chevy small block and we used the intake manifold bolts , I think . Would these 3/8" valve cover studs will work ? Thanks !!

For a clutch job, one normally splits the tractor at the bellhousing and leaves the engine bolted to the side frames and leaves radiator and power steering lines and front support still installed..

Wanted to pull engine as I have a bad oil leak at the rear of the motor . Gonna put it on my engine stand and flip it over and replace rear main seal and oil pan gasket and anything else suspect . Guess it all comes out in the wash .Be nice but don't have power steering . Thanks Dr Allis

At least YOU didn't find the mother of all 'Mouse house' when you split it !!!! Troy's bellhousing was so jammed full, it took me 2 HOURS to get most of the 'stuff' out..clutch was history, stater,once cleaned actually kibda wanted to spin, a bit, sortof.... You should install a new 'pilot' bearing..... more to the 'list'.... lol

The correct clutch disc for a D-15 isn't fiber lining, but what you have....4 metallic buttons.

Yeah Jay , a new pilot bearing is on my list . Yeah Dr Allis , my disc has the 4 buttons . Just shows how much I don't know . I was going by the pic in my DJ's catalog . I've been in contact with Rick . Maybe he can keep me straight ? Thanks !

Anyone pulled a D 15 release bearing lately ? Looks like you pull the vertical shaft clip and the shaft pushes out of the way ? Mine's a greasy mess , gonna let it soak overnite . Thanks !

yeesh been too long ago tore member that BUT I do KNOW that it HAS to be on the clutch side of a cast iron peg on the driver's side of the bellhousing otherwise YOU get to split the tractor, again, to put it on the correct side of that cast iron peg...
it also took me HOURS to get rid of the mouse house....

Had my flywheel turned this morn . Guy pointed out 3 evenly spaced ring gear wear spots . Said he'd seen that before . Maybe because the engine usually stops in the same 3 places ? I dunno . Fav son should post a pic soon . Thanks !

You can warm the ring gear up and slip it midway between wear spots if you're cheap VS replacing it.

mark where ringgear is now, remove, install maybe 60* off ?
4 cylinder engines always stop 1 of 2 places, so I've been told. new ringgear from Agco,decade ago was $100 Cdn... made in India. you're not cheap, you're frugal, heck I give all my Dutchies a bad name as I'm frugaller than ALL of them combined !!

Loosened bolt that holds clutch fork together and spread it apart enough to twist the shifter tube and remove it and the release bearing . Have the release bearing knocked off the tube also . Making progress . Thanks
