This has probably been discussed before on here but what is the story behind these tractors?

This Demo tractor was ACs try at the first over 200hp tractor on the market in the FWA tractors. It would have made if it would have stayed AC. Deutz bought and Destroyed every thing AC. Gleaner was down graded with the Deutz air-cooled engine. As much we(including myself complain) about AGCO they did breathe life back into AC and Gleaner.

The only company with more crazy ideas than Agco was Duetz. |

They had to lengthen the frame and had a Komatsu 6cyl in there. only three were built and they were replaced with Cummins when AC went down.

Komatsu is either the first or second largest company in mining. Can't be much wrong with their engines. I had a Komatsu track loader and it was a great machine.
Deutz, I don't know what is wrong with their engines either. I had a skid steer loader with a deutz and it was a great machine. |

This is talked about in Norm Swinford's book. The 301 and 426 were already 20+ years old in 1985. Engine line needed to be updated but with cost of developing a new engine line and expected sales volume they probably would have sourced engines from outside supplier. |
