Was removing the timing cover to replace the gasket and when it came off the governor came out also. My first question is do the gears need to be timed any certain way or can I just stick it back in there? My second question is I noticed one of the ball bearings is missing from the thrust bearing. Is it safe to keep using this one or would it be better to replace it? Hopefully they are still available if needed. Thanks.

Shouldn’t need timed. I would replace that thrust bearing if I were you.

Look in the oil pan?
probably not there, might have gone out in the oil change...
might have fallen out when a mechanic had it apart before...
or as it was being assembled.
Don't know if it makes any difference for the slight out of balance.
 Guess I would replace it.
