Guys I have a leak under my d 14 and I am not sure where it is coming from. I bought this tractor and the guy filled the hydrologic with oil that was meant for the engine and was told at least 3 qtrs? Was also told it never leaks but thats all it has done. What is messed up a lot of the leak is up on the foot rest but nothing is leaking because its all underneath. Anybody have suggestions?

Engine oil for hydraulics isnt uncommon in old machines. Not this particular one but it was recommended in others

The 3 qts of motor oil won't hurt anything.  As for the leak, which side is it?  Left side could be PTO lever, Right side could be the PD clutch lever. IIRR, the right O-rings will fix those leaks...Wink

Only you can find where the leak is.  We are not there to see for ourselves.  Feel around until your dry finger gets wet.  Then look for shafts or gaskets in the area.

The whole underside is drenched with oil...most Allis Chalmers have "common issues" which I was hoping somebody would come across in their life time. A simple feel until fingers are wet would not require me posting a question. I need a reference point and from previous post looks like I got one. In the mean time I will remember that trick

Sounds like it's time to pressure wash the WHOLE thing. Then you can find out where the leak is right away when it starts leaking.

Get a couple clean, delidded 5G pails then drain ALL the oils out,let sit 1-2 days if you can, at the very least overnight, to get as much old oil out. Then put the plugs back in, THEN wash it pretty good, let dry and wait....you may then see oil seeping out.
You can use a 'Universal Transmission-Hydraulic-Differential' to refill. I've used the stuff from Wallmart for years in my fleet of D-14s, zero problems.
The PTO lever o-ring is a common problem. Frankly it's a LOT of work to replace, oil's cheap, and well 'Troy' will never be a 'show winner' anyway....both crank seals weep too... PD is fine though !

The way you describe the severity of the leak, I'd be taking a 3/4" wrench and a 3/4" deep socket and breaker bar and make sure the split bolts are TIGHT on the bottom and all the way up the torque tube/transmission joint. Located at the instrument panel and all the way down.

When you get it cleaned up good, sprinkle baby powder around where you think it is leaking. When it leaks, it will turn the powder brown and leave a trail .             MACK
