I've got a D-10 series III. I've replaced the started bearings on it. Not that  hard to do and made a big difference on how well it cranked over.

One bearing will drive through and the other run a tap, 5/8" NC if I remember right. Then turn a cap screw in and pull the bearing out.

Starter drive should be a easy replacement, on HD4 starter I found rebuild shop that had them in stock. One pressed cage for clutch and other with heavy duty snap ring clutch.
