auction with 85 L3 gleaner

we have been looking to up grade combine and this one is coming up in  a couple of weeks in convoy oh  it has 2510 hrs is there any thing to watch out for on it with the hours i do not imagine to find much wrong with it sells seperate but has this 6 row head and a green stripe 320 head also  what would something like this be worth??  looking on internet prices all over board

Looks like 30.5 drive tires and those luggers on the rear will for sure take you through a lot of mud, (like standing water)even if it doesn't have a mud hog drive.

I bought an 84 L3 with 6-30, 4-38 and 315 with 3500 engine hours for $7700 in spring 2010.  Being out of season and seller had a poor reputation for maintenance hurt it's value.  However, he only owned it 2 years and prior owner was type "A" about maintenance so I took a chance on it.  

It looks to me like it is only 2wd.  The rear hubs dont look like 4wd to me.  It does look pretty clean to me though.  I am not a big fan of the series 3 headers.  The one we had was nothing but trouble in short beans.  Down here, a lot of people seem to think their L2s are worth 10-15k, and I would put that combine in that price range.  If it is actually only 2wd, that hurts its value quite a bit in my opinion.  

If the hours are engine and it runs good (have someone engage the threshing and run full speed while you walk around & listen) I think $10,000 would be towards the low end for a late L3.  If I needed it and it came from a good home I wouldn't think twice about $15K.  We ran an '80 L2 and I loved that machine, the only thing I would have changed would be a heavier rear end.  Had to be careful turning on ends with gullys but what else is new.  Just my .02,  Good luck!

WOW.  L3s will go for $5000 all day long in SD. Heads usually go for 10 cents a pound.

For the lawn and garden guys, that a really nice Simplicity 'Wonder Boy' Looks like well kept equuipment. No one should be afraid to buy at that sale.

I thought silver wheels came with the green stripe and purple (gun metal blue) cab and chassis?  Were each of the color changes made gradually?  First time I have seen them mixed and matched.  I always assumed the wheels had been changed when I saw silver wheels on a older Gleaner.

All L3s were hydro.

We had one of the last L3 s built, it was not a Hydro..Had a 301 FYI, Trev.

I'm correct on this one Ryan. I dont have the serial number anymore, but it was badged Deutz-Allis it was green stripe with silver wheels. It had a KHD badge in the steering wheel. It had just about every option that they came with except Hydro. I think it was a Corn/Soybean Special decal on the hopper, which was unusual for these parts. It was an 1986 model that my dad bought new in late 1987, for $77000 including 13 foot header with a Victory super 8 pickup. He also got a new 24 foot straight header as our 22 header would not connect up without some modifications to the hydraulic connector. It had the floating feeder beater. It also came with the floating header option. We had trouble with the knife breaking for about 2 harvests until I figured out the pitman arm had been assembled upside down. We welded it closed and remilled it, never had trouble again. IT WAS NOT HYDRO, but he bought it anyways because it was a smoking deal. They wanted to sell him a rotary, he wouldnt have it. The 301 had lots of power, it was a really nice machine had a lot more capacity than the M2 it replaced...

I was there.  Also had Duetz-Allis at top of cab along with silver wheels but no green stripe.  Had 24xx engine hrs.  No sep. meter.  Had lots of stuff wrote on sides of combine like what shafts drive what etc.  Also when ever they changed a bearing they wrote the date next to it on the combine.  Unload auger was replaced, had liner in bin floor.
