Next week I plan on looking at a 716H, it has a bad engine, I have read on here about engine swaps on 720's. Do the tractors have the same chassis? What is the preferred swap? Any advice good or bad will be great. Thanks

716s are a completely different animal from the 720. Can't help with the engine swap. That is all I can tell you.

The 700 series Tractors (especially the 716H) is one tough machine. No doubt about it! The Allis 716H was normally powered by a Kohler 16HP engine. (K361) The Simplicity counterpart, was usually powered by a 16HP Briggs & Stratton. Any one lung Kohler or Briggs from either models of series Tractors will drop in and hook up pretty much without any trouble. You do have to watch with engines from other makes though especially in the driveshaft hookup area. A V twin Kohler Command engine will even shoehorn into a 700 series chassis with a little modification. I'm working on a project like that right now. Pretty darn tight, but it fits. The 16 horse version of the Kohler is a little tough to find now n' then, but you can always repower it with the 14HP version, or a Briggs from the same line.. HTH

What would be the biggest hp engine and make that could be easily shoehorned into the tractor?
