If you had the chance to trade a WD45 with loader, which I now have, for a pretty good looking D19, would you do it?   Why, or, why not?

Thanks

Depends on the condition of both tractors and what engine is in the 19. If they were in comparable condition I would rather have the 19 myself.

Thank you, AC.

I was kind of looking at the D19 having more power, maybe a better 3pt hitch ????  Also, I haven't gone to check it out, been talking with the guy, but it looks to be easier to mount than from behind on the WD45.

Only have had the WD45 for a couple weeks.  Nice paint, not a restore, but nice enough, especially if not too critical up close.   Then, the chance for a D19 came along, read the specs online, seems more power, if needed here on my 11+ pastured acres. Hay, etc.

Not if the D19 is Gas. If they are in comparable condition the D19 is a newer more powerfull tractor. has a better ride and power steering. If its beat to death than keep the WD45. Tires will make a huge differance in how good the trade is. I put new tires on my WD45 last year 2K for new rears with new rims. My old rims looked good till I took the tires off.so they needed replacment at the same time.

Well my first thought is how often do you need a loader, seems like on an acreage it is ALL the time.  I didn't catch if the 19 had a loader.  Since I don't know where you live, the diesel may be an issue for winter activity, they are hard starters in the winter, unless plugged in or a fresh engine.  But all other things being equal, I would take a D19 every day of the week, and twice on Sunday over a WD45.

FYI, the D19, will have a similar snap coupler set-up, very few had factory 3-point that I know of.

Does the guy want your 45? With 11 acres you should almost have a backup, I'd keep the 45 and buy the 19 if the price was right and the tractor was in good shape.

I could be wrong but I have been studying the D series tractors pretty hard, and the D-19 is a pretty big stout tractor. And I may be wrong but what I have found, if the D-19 is gas it will be thirsty between 5-6.5 GPH depending on use and the WD under 4 GPH depending on use. But I have to say I love the looks of the D's and the 19 will probably be all you ever need if not more.

giving up a loader even if just a trip bucket would be hard for me to do. Do you need to haul it often? The first thing I'd do is compare tires Then see how the d19 runs and drives and stays in gear and all the d19 checks. As far as looks go d series tractors look good but a wd 45 is in my opinion the one of the best looking tractors ever made. Mine with a loader and added step is fairly easy to get on but yes a d series is much easier. If the wd45 has power steering with the loader it would be quite handy on small acerage. The best solution is keep the wd and buy the d19. If you have small acerage you need atleast 10 tractors anyway.Wink

Wow, guys, lots of good info to consider.  Thank you!

It is a gas in decent condition from what I can tell through the photo.   I pay cash for about everything.  Hate debt.  Paid close to $100,000 cash for the house and 13 total acres.  That pretty wiped out my sock drawer cash. I have spent so much on this house and place since I moved here a couple months ago. (Amending soil of 5.2 ph, etc.)

He is only  asking $2,500.  Another guy is looking at it today, or, did last night.  Yesterday, we spoke on the phone, where I gave him a plan to buy the tractor in cash in a by the first of September. Especially, if I get a decent commission check in a few weeks.   He wanted to get cash now because he wants to get another tractor.

He said he wants a tractor with a loader.   I have a loader arriving on Sunday for my WD45.  I asked him if he would be interested in a trade.  He said that he would consider it.  Not really at all turned off by the idea.

I haven't had the WD45 all that long.  I like it, but another D19, in like new condition sold locally for $4,000 recently, and that is what got me interested and doing some internet research.   When I was a kid, we had a CASE back in the '60's.  Liked it.  Been off the farm a few years, and now just picked up 11 acres. (13 if you include the house, lawn, and acre + pond. It is now divided off into two fenced pastures of abut 5+ acres each.

DanWI,
I like the way that you think! Smile   I was thinking the same thing, that is, about having both, the WD45 that I have now, AND a D19.  That is why I offered to pay the $2,500 in full by the 1st.   He  seemed to want the cash NOW, and at $2,500, he will probably get it as I am typing this.

PlayGun,
We think alike on the esthetics of the D19. I like it's looks... same, though, for the WD45.  Mine is not "restored" but it has a nice new paint job in Persian Orange #1.

Orange Blood, and all.....
It is a gas, if we agree, we will get together and inspect each other's tractor and proceed from there.  Mine is in excellent condition.  His looks good, and says nothing is wrong with it.  We will have a chance to go over them before any deal.

My main concern now, is that he will have someone get there first and snap it up.  Like he said, someone had called and said that they would come look.  At $2,500.

I have been thinking of a D19 for some time, right after I got the WD45, an ORANGE bug bit me.   If this one sells, before I get it, after hearing from you guys, I will definitely be hoarding cash to buy another when it comes up.     I have seen two in the region in the last couple months, one for $4,000 that sold just like that.  It was in almost new condition, and this one for $2,500.   Either way, my next big to me, purchase will be a D19.

Thanks a million!

Am still interested in other comments on the topic and will keep checking.

Thad,

A tractor per acre, I like it! Smile   Great info.  I wish he would let me buy it in cash by the 1st.  Offered to give him $1,500 now, $500 when I get my commission check around the 15th or so, and another $500 with my paycheck on the 1st.   He wanted cash NOW.  We'll see.

Thanks!

Any D19 for $2500, is almost a steal, unless something is drastically wrong with it.

D-19 ; Hi lo PD , easier and stronger for 3 pt adaptor on Snap coupler, 3 pt was available from factory, safer and more comfortable riding position, easier to get on and off, more power, better hydraulics and steering and looks better ( at least from these eyes) 2500.00 ? Keep them both

Just a comment on the fuel consumption.  Yes the 19 gas could use a lot but remember it's a pretty big tractor,up to 5 plow.  45 was much lighter - 3 plow.  we only used 3 gal per hour in heavy pulling, like plowing or chopping on the 45.  19 could go up to 4 plus in heavy pulling, like a six row rear mount cultivator.  For lighter work it wasn't so bad, big problem was the gas tank was too small!

I have 4 tractors per acre and I only have 5 acres. The 19 looks pretty good. Not telling what to do but if yiou  have good credit borrow the money for 30, 60 or 90 dasys and you will be money ahead. I did that for my D12 and have not regreted iot. Just my 2 cents.

You can put the same loader on either tractor. I've had the same trip bucket loader on a WD, D14 and D19.

we have as our main tractor a d19 gasser. we use it on 20 acres with 4x16 sc plow and drag around a 14ft double disk and spring tooth harrow. it has 3000 hrs on it. yep. its thirsty but it will pull anything we hook it to. wouldn't sell it for anything under $4500. seems that 19's are really getting popular.

My D19 is a diesel, and I love it.  I can't imagine the gas engine being that bad in comparison.  For that price, buy it.

Guys, I REALLY want to thank you all for your posts.  I am going to click on the "thanks" button, and hope that does the job.

Great posts!

I do not want to JINX it, but after several of you commented that I should keep both, and after talking to the man today, and him not being as interested in a trade for my WD45, as I had thought in our previous conversation, we have a verbal, over the phone agreement that I will look at the tractor, the first of the week, and if all is right with it, I will buy it.

He has kindly accepted my offer to pay him the $2,500 by the first of September, and has made arrangements to have it hauled here.

He seems like a genuine, great guy.  I am looking forward to meeting him.

After talking with him, it looks like we have a deal.

Two tractors.  Heck, I need a darn truck, PROBABLY, more than I need a second tractor, but WHERE are you going to find a sweet orange D19 at such a good price.

Really, I was sweating this out.  If it hadn't been for the evaluations that you guys made in this topic, If I didn't know about the forum, I may have just passed on this one, and gotten a truck.

As it is, when I get it, and it does depend on checking it out first, I think, with your supportive comments, that I am going to be a very happy person, and happy that I kept both.

Again, thank you ALL!

Hi, BIG FISH.

I wasn't confident that I could find a WD45 loader "any day", or, that they could be common in southern Missouri.
I am a little embarrassed to tell you how much I paid for it.  The good thing is that he is in another state and agreed to deliver it free.    Nice guy on the phone.  Looking forward to meeting him.

Dexter I love my 19 G and will never get rid of it. It'll do anything I ask of it from light to heavy jobs, and even baling heavy hay with 8 x 16 kicker wagons on hills she burns 2 gallons per load. Just about the most bullet proof rig I ever saw!
