wheel adaptors are not a real good idea... and they adapt one bolt pattern to another.... You just want larger tires/ wheels.......... What is the bolt pattern and what do the wheels fit on......... Example, an old EXPLORER was 4.5 inch bolt pattern ( circle) and had 15 inch rims.. Now you can buy 16- 17-18 inch for the same truck...... Probably same rimes fit a Taurus and Mustang... Sometime bolt patterns don't change for many years within one manufacturer.

hmm...going taller means you need one of two options 1) a lower profile tire( less rubber), so $$ more and they don't last..... 2) raise the body 2-3 inches or else rub-a-dub-dub...especially when turning tight !! you could probably go 16s without problems..

Joe, I'll sell you a set of pert in near new 15 inch tires, but you have to take the pickup that they are on and all! It's a 91 ford F 150 that my youngest bought from my dad, then second youngest decided to drive it without engine oil in it. Heck, it might be a good project for ya! Darrel

Remember when 16" tires were on most cars - then when I had the 35 Ford it had banjo rims - so we would knock the rivits out and then weld the centers into 15" rims .
Had a bunch of 49/51 Olds 88 - cars and getting a set of 14" rims as those tires were easier to find then 15" Seems the idea of tire size - tire height - tire width - sure has changed over the years - even on trucks from 20", 22.5", 24", now the super singles and low profile . Yet cars now with 20's is the deal or ???? |

Hey Steve,,you just might of cleared it up for me,,,Ya see my 18' trailer has 245 15" tires and last time I went up to the mountains,,I hurt one of the tires and 3 tire shops later,,,I gave up trying to find a 15" tire for replacement,,,new or used,,, everybody carries 17"s . the hubs on trailer are 6 hole with old Chevy bolt pattern. I was told Chevy never made 6 hole wheels in 17" size is why I thought maybe some adapters to bolt onto the 6 hole hubs I got and be able to mount Ford 5 or 6 bolt 17" wheels,,,,,??? The axles on the trailer are mobile home 9000# and I installed "modified" 6 bolt hubs with the Chevy 15" bolt pattern. CHIT,,if I had known bout how scarce the 15" tires are now,,,I might of gone a different route with those new hubs,,,,, OR,,do you know of other mfgrs that use 6 hole wheels in 17" size that fit on the Chevy bolt pattern??

Joe the information you received about 6 hole Chevy rims is not quite correct. In my 22 years in the tire shop I sold 1 set of 17" tl tires to an old pal of mine who had a 1960's vintage Chevy pickup. But the rims are very narrow, 6 bolt. They were the only ones I saw in all those years. They are there but finding them, well Good luck.

yhe old Chevy step vans had 6 bolt 17 inch wheels/tires on them, was about '68-'70 vintage. and if'n ya wasn't so cheap, you'd go to the auto parts store and order you sum new factory rims in the size you want!

Toyota 4x4 are 6 bolt. Same storey here trying to find 15” tires and 16’s are just as hard to find. I have a severe dislike for big wheels and small tires.
Used to be able to go buy a used tire for farm equipment or trailer in 15” or 16”. Not today. |

I have a homemade trailer with trailer house axles and I put white spoke 4x4 rims on it with 31 x10.50 x 15lt tires. You can buy those tires new at farm and fleet last time I checked.

My 18" flatbed double L trailer used same wheels/tires as my 85 F-150 truck. I never carried a spare, still don't! Couldn't change one on the road anyway so why drag around all that extra weight! lol!! thanks; ac fleet

look at GOOGLE.. it looks like around 1990 Chevy started making 16 inch rims in addition to 15 inch... but 2000 it looks like MOST 1/2 ton trucks had the 16 inch 6 bolt rims... I "THINK" these a 6 bolt on 139.7 mm circle ............ should be about any 1/2 ton truck in the yard would have these 16 inch ??

I think the CHEVY is 5.5 inch ( or 139.7 mm) ......... that seems to be a standard on many trucks..

The 6 X 5.5 bolt pattern is common to TOYOTA, NISSAN, ISUZU, MITSUBISHI, MAZDA, INFINITI, LEXUS, DODGE, HONDA, JEEP and other vehicles. |

I think its funny how when you go to a tire shop and they say a certain size is not a common size, but it just depends on the customers they cater to. Like 11 x 24.5 semi tires some places don't carry them but they are used on alot of hopper bottom trailers. Or narrow tractor tires or wide, some places specialize in them. Years ago a friend wanted tall narrow mud tires to put on a 4 wheel drive truck for spraying but the local tire shop said they couldn't get any he just had to look a little further then the local shop.

Shameless, why does it not surprise me that you had a van.....? Did it look something like this: Wild paint job with passionate pink stripes, big ole wide drag slicks on the back and skinny lil tire up front, couple of moon roofs, bubble windows on the sides, 3 inch shag carpet on the inside walls, huge speaker boxes in it, with a gi-normous amp, and a waterbed on the floor. Oh, and bullet hole in it from Dad's who didn't think that you had ought to be picking up their daughters for a date in such a rig. Darrel |
