Someone on the Red board started a thread like this. Couldn't help myself, had to do some dreaming. The one I 'dreamed up'.

A WD 45 with a 5.9 Cummins, 12 speed power-shift, 185 final drives, and 20.8x34's. Upon further reflection, might even throw in a diesel ring and pinion. It would be plenty fast with the 5.9 and 20.8's!

I realize this is true fantasy but hey, it would be fun!

I always thought the best of all worlds for the tractors I'm used to would be an Allis 180/185 engine, front-end, hydraulic system, and layout (with their high-up platform seating position), but have the 8-speed tranny and rear end from a Ford 5000/6600 - including the independent PTO. Though I'd keep the Allis draft control system over the Ford's, and wouldn't mind the PD as well. I love the Allis 6 cyl, seating position, layout, hydraulics and look of the 180. But those Ford trannys and rear-ends were uber-bulletproof and could be abused to heck without issue. I'm quite certain if any of our Allis's were abused like our Fords have been for logging and working in the gravel pit, we would have had jumping gear issues and rear end failures years ago. But our Fords keep taking the abuse without complaint - well over 10k hours. I'd far rather be sitting on an Allis however: They sure got layout and hydraulic system right when they designed the 180.

I'd probably also have 30" rears on there, as I always thought the 180's looked a little too squat on the back with the stock 28's.

Not today but IF in the 1960-70's - Start off with the IV D17 (170) - change the torque housing to accept the 7000 wet type PTO and power director clutch 3 speed - remove 1st gear to allow for syncros and move the PD torque gears down a bit. Use the 3 speed for a 9 speed trans - put disc brakes on as some of the pullers have done and power it with the 4.33T as in the 6060 - the a 2800 at 75 HP for the pullers to be legal -  then 4.33I  up to 85 PTO - switch to the bar axle to with the 301 at 105 and 118 HP as in the 7000 -

The 80xx, especially power shift, needed more gear selection. It needed a 3 speed rear end. It would have been a real update over the 700xx. I still enjoy my ps 8050's as is.

I wanted to put the 4.33I into a WD45 or a D17.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Fun question!!! Allis Chalmers steam engines, AC hit and miss engines or more of the 2 cylinder engines like Fred has.

I would have liked to have seen what Gleaner could have done with a 6080 and 8010. I can imagine a hydrostat transmission and electro hydraulics. The side council in the 8010 could’ve looked so far ahead of its time.

Love the late 190's or 200 but could use a few more gears between 5/6 and 7/8 and make road gear faster. Have never driven an 8000 series, thinking they would fit pretty good on the farm. Friend has one of every model, 8010, 8030, 8050 and 8070, but life is busy and I never get over to his farm any more to help him out otherwise I would probably get a chance to drive one. I think the Agco DT series was heading in the right direction, powershift or CVT transmission. Cumins motor and later Sisu. The one my friend has I have driven and other then some nagging electrical issues I think it has been a good tractor.

I agree with the two stage clutch with the 100/200 series tractors.  That would have been nice.  My one-sixty has it, so why couldn't the other 100 series of had them?  Also, I like the power director on the D series tractors rather than the one on the 180, etc.  The 170 had the had clutch that was nice and easy to use.  Dave
