My 48 C will not stay in third gear unless you hold it in place. Any help would be appreciated. Do you think the problem is in the shift cover or in the transmission ?
Thanks: Richmar

Shifter could be wore or slightly bent. You can take the rubber boot off and remove the snap ring(the tricky part ) and remove the retainer thingy and pull the shifter out. It should be obvious upon inspection if the ball on the end is noticeably wore or if the shifter isn't straight.
The problem might more likely be in the forks on the side cover. You have to drain the tranny to pull the cover and inspect . You can also inspect the gears with that cover off. |
