I have a woods L 59 belly mower on my C and I need need right and left skid shoes that go on the sides. Mine are worn through with holes. Does anyone have a pair for sale, or know of a source for new ones.

Parts are still available thru Woods. I recently purchased new front wheels for my L306 from the local dealer. The operators and parts manuals are available on-line at the Woods Website:

try the dealer locator on the woods site.
they still make them and parts are avaliable.
Our local woods dealer has wear parts instock.
the local John Deere dealer also orders parts for me.

That is exactly what I had thought about doing. I have some old broken springs off a 1 ton dump that are the same width, and are close on the curvature. Sandy Lake has them new for 50 bucks each plus shipping. I may try to weld em up, and then if it doesnt work bite the bullet on new ones.

I guess I need to read the manual. How does that work if you don't have the caster wheels up front. I know they are an option.

Norm, I was sort of wondering about that. Mine run on the groung the whole time, If I get em rebuilt I need to adjust the front wheels to get the skids up so they dont wear out that fast. It did take about ten years to wear them out.

If you rebuild them with old leaf springs, you'll probably bet 20 years out of them.

I have over a quarter of a mile of road ditch that I mow. I have the caster wheels adjusted for the flat-er yard. When you are to the bottom of the ditch one side runs on the grass with one caster wheel off the ground. Right or wrong I assumed that this is why they had runners on the outer edge.

I have the same issue as Dick L. When I mow the ditches the skids on my L306 make contact with the ground. On a flat surface/yard they don't touch.

The caster wheels are supposed to take the whole weight of the mower. The skid plates are for what Dick says, when you are on uneven ground it will keep the mower from running the blades into the ground. You should also have the caster wheels set correctly so that any tree stumps that you might have will travel above the stump. Don't ask me how I know this...
