So I got this idea to build a B on steel wheels, like a war era. With ideas like fallowing, please let me know what you guys think is or isnt correct.
Steel wheels
cast final drive covers (bull gear cover)
cast valve cover
cast oil pan
hand start
PTO only
Steel seat
hand brakes
What you guys think?
Anyone have an idea on years available? war was 39-45, I would assume several yrs if not all the years of the war.......
here is a simular pic out of "the allis chalmers story"
Also what about the fenders on the tractor in this pic? there really wide.... where do I find some of those......

You'll need the tall air intake too.I don't know what years the War B was built but probably was from 41 or 42 till 45.

The long pipe you see in the picture is the air intake. The B's had an under hood muffler that only sticks up a couple inches. The dark part at the bottom of the tall pipe is the exhaust, it is just in direct line with the air intake.

The fenders had "tops" to cover the wheels on the steel wheeled B's.

I always use the Allis Chalmers Data Book by Terry Dean, it's pocket size and full of info on AC tractors from 1914 - 1963.

Deans handbook is out of print and out of site. I wish I would have bought a case of them when they were 12 bucks. I have slap worn mine out. Finding one for sale at that sticker price is almost impossible.

Take the steel seat and handbrakes off your list and add the thick 4 notch wheel centers. They needed them for the extra rear weight because liquid ballast works only with rubber tires |

Here is a copy from Jim at OKTractor. On Amazon you find crazy prices into the hundreds of dollars. I have 5 or 6 copies of this book so I can have one in every vehicle, in the shop and next to the computer, best book I ever bought, look up stuff almost every day.

In 1941 the B's came out with foot brakes, no more hand brakes after that.

Finding a new Dean Data Book for under $50 is good. Jim has a family to raise and a house to keep warm.

Don't forget that the war B had the fairbanks morse FMJ4B3 magneto. Also, wasn't there a Babcock T stat housing on some of the early B's.

The standard B seat is a Canvas Covered bench type seat cushion that fits fender to fender.

This is what heavy centers look like for a C or B with 5 bolt centers. The ones for B's with a spline look the same except for the center. They have 4 notches around the outside instead of 2.

They started with straight pipes on the B's, then went to underhood mufflers until about 1949 if I remember correctly. |

RockyBottom
When you order the Data Book from Jim ask him if he will also sell you a Jensales Parts Mannual for B,IB,&C tractors. He usually has them in stock. This is where most of us find the in black and white information for a lot of your B C questions.
And yes, the Monrow seat was a upgrade.

There are a lot more special parts on the War B than have been mentioned here. The heavy 4-knotch steel wheel centers for the B are flat and splined, the C centers are dished and 5 lug. I have a set of steel wheel C centers for sale and a War B that could be bought. The War B is complete with all the special parts including steel wheels for all 4 corners. bjhopwood@hughes.net

The arm is one version of the hand lift mounted plow. I wonder what shipping the weights from Australia would cost? Probably a bit expensive...
