i bought a F2 engine ,thinking about putting in a D17 series 1 I was wondering if the block will clear the power steering on the right side. I also have a D17 series 3 and a WD45 I could use. just a toy maybe pull some silage wagons. Thanks for any input

Lot's of things don't work without serious changes. You cannot have power steering unless you change it over to a hydrostatic system. If it is a gas chassis, the clutch shaft is technically too long. I had a long post in the farm equipment section about 6 years ago "D-17 XT" that covered most of the struggles. If you have a diesel chassis, things are easier, starting with your flywheel and clutch bolt right on to the combine engine and the clutch shaft is shorter.

Ever seen a d17 with other motors swapped in? Like a 353 dd or others?

All I've ever seen is a couple of 433-T or TI's or many G-230/G-262, which drop right in a diesel chassis. I do know where there is one with a G-2800/301 gasser and the steering was an issue with it too. I did see a picture of one that had a 433-T and manual steering using a small 1/2" drive socket set knuckle to get by the left front corner of the engine. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to all the trouble to swap to a newer more powerful engine, I AM going to have power steering!!!

If you could find a BUDA 273 from a Cockshutt you would have a much more durable engine than an Allis Diesel because you wouldn't have the sleeve problem and very few could tell that the engine was changed.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

I've always felt the D-262 wet-sleeve decision was because the dealer organization had been using them since 1934. So, the sales team/engineering team almost had to stay with that feature. A bad decision in the end.
